Automatic Regen too often

I've noticed a number of posts regens are better in cool temperature. I wonder if there's a way to trick the ECM into thinking it's cooler out and would it help?
Better yet, make it where the temperature doesn’t matter. Or the humidity. I took some of the AGS slats out and it seemed to help. It’s able to get intake air in through the front instead of what ever crack or through the backside of the radiator. YMMV

Just got my diagnosis I've been waiting for. New DPF. The truck has had a MAF, differential pressure sensor x2, pcm updates, and air filter with no major success. My regens went from 20 miles to 266miles. Hopefully a new dpf puts me back to normal. I've personally pressure tested the intake system and exhuast with all passing up to 35psi with built tools. The dealer disassembled the intake horn, grid heater, and charge tube's today for a full inspection and agree the truck is not making any excessive soot. They believe what I do that the dpf is failing. Possible cause is the incorrect pcm files from when the cp3 recall was done.

Hopefully ot works, I've had all that done and they are replacing my DPF again. The dealership did say they were seeing the DOC fail but they are a single unit with the DPF.

Second 24 hour regen in a row since the weather cooled off.

871 miles and 24 engine hours.
Average speed of 35.72

DPF gauge on the dash never registered any soot load at all the entire time. Mostly all highway with some short trips and idle time.

DPF % REG jumped to 20’s when the cycle started. Took 19 minutes on the highway at 75mph. I’ll be curious to see what the PID reads when I start the truck back up this afternoon and head home. It was a warmer than normal morning (60°F) with some moderate humidity due to the recent rain.

Still using the same fuel from the same station and the normal Archoil AR6500 1oz / 10gal dose.

One of our disaster relief trucks is a 2022 Ram 3500 HO. It was at the dealership for over 3 months earlier this year for constant regeneration and they never fixed it. We have been driving it now for a couple of months (it doesn't get driven much unless there is a disaster) until the check engine light has come back on and it is now displaying the message that says something to the effect of "there is an issue with the dpf please see dealer." Hopefully they will finally do something about it now and hopefully it won't take another 3 months. With the recent hurricanes our trucks need to be on the road. Unfortunately the truck was built outside the window of the recent TSB. It goes back in to a different dealership today.

That is just disappointing especially when you have big reason to have your truck on the road. When I spoke to the dealer earlier this week DPFs are on back order. I would make a case with Ram care right away and hopefully they can expedite one for you. You line of work the just might.

Disaster relief and emergency vehicles shouldn’t even have the crap on them. Atleast not until they have it perfected to the point of zero issues.
Just one more step to doing away with ICE’s.

I sent Ram Cares a message right after posting that. We will see what happens but I am not hopeful. The last time it was in a STAR case was opened and the dealership claimed that they never would let them replace anything other than the MAF and just told them to keep driving it and eventually said there is nothing wrong. It is in regeneration more than not at this point. Regeneration lasts over 45 minutes then it shows building soot for 20 minutes until it starts another round. And this truck is pulling a loaded gooseneck 95% of the time. Like others here, it is beyond frustrating. Our group only has 3 trucks, this 22, an 18 Ram 3500, and an 18 F350. The F350 just got $3000 worth of emissions work done on it and the check engine light is on again for the same code. The 18 Ram has never had 1 single issue. I would trade the 22 and the Ford for a couple of 2018 Rams in a heartbeat at this point but we would take a bath on them.

STAR is a joke, they sent out s super special mechanics to come kick my tires. Once I left the dealership it went into regen go figure. I know your pain I've been dealing with mine the last 10months and the dealership has haf my truck more than I have.

Yeah, I have been watching your thread. I fear that this truck has the same issues as yours. It "makes" oil too. I have not had a chance to get an oil sample though.

Diesel fuel is not a sufficient lubricant. The excess fuel could possibly be your dpf/regen problem.

Since your vehicle is a 3500 and is used in an emergency response type of situation, you should seriously consider contacting the NHTSA and reporting the issue to them. They were very interested in the K1 snap ring failure trucks when it came to emergency vehicles. Since this issue causes the truck to technically be “reduced” in its capacity or ability to perform its necessary function, that might give you a little more weight behind the response. Their K1 snap ring investigation is still ongoing as well. I’m sure there are a lot of 2022’s with emissions issues that are also involved in some level of emergency response capacity. Reporting them to a higher authority is one way to effect change.

I think everyone having emission issues should make a complaint. I've done 3 myself lol.

Agree completely.

Military vehicles are exempt from those regulations so I don’t see why emergency vehicles shouldn’t be as well

I will look into how to do that. Thanks

Forgot to post this yesterday but this was the DPF%REG reading after finishing the 20 mile (24 hour) active regeneration. All highway at 75mph with no soot on the dash gauge prior to initiation. Zero towing or loaded operation, all unloaded. I only drove about a mile or two after the regen finished and then parked the truck for 8 hours. This was my reading upon startup:IMG_8974.jpeg
3% is the best I’ve ever seen it. That’s a better result than I had after 8 hours of continuous towing at a GCW of 33k. (It was mid July then when temps were in the 90’s and humidity was higher)

I heard someone say that passive regens don’t clean or purge the DPF as well as active regens do. I guess that’s why they have it do an active regen at least every 24 hours. I have not used the Archoil 6500 at all on my last tank of fuel and so far it’s at 20 hours and 723 miles with the DPF gauge still on 0. The last active regen was really odd. I left home with the DPF gauge on 0 and within 10 miles it went up to about 40% and went into an Active Regen at 20 hours. Something caused it to rapidly increase that time. I did a forced regen shortly after that before I did an oil change. The gauge hasn’t moved off of 0 since. I’ve tried not to make any short trips that didn’t allow it to get to operating temp and stay there for a while. No. 3 EGT’s will get up to 625-650 then abruptly drop back to 550-580 range and slowly go back up to around 625 and drop again. Interstate driving. I’m still as confused about how these things operate as I was day one and I have been driving vehicles with DPF’s since 2008. I’ve never encountered anything that varies as much as this truck does.
The cooler temperature seems to have helped your truck and maybe by December we’ll get some temperatures down in the 40’s and 50’s. Humidity here has been running right at 100% in the mornings with temps 65-70 degrees.
