2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

I think back in the pre covid days, there was no waiting 4-6 months for a truck. The dealers had tons of truck in stock that could appease most buyers and if not the order process was at most a 2-3 month affair so tracking a build wasn't a real concern because they could stick with the timeline pretty easily in most cases. Now with no dealer stock, we are all stuck ordering for the most part as it's the best way to avoid paying well over MSRP for a truck that is in stock. They aren't equipped to provide good tracking data and it's frustrating as hell especially when your an optimistic idiot like me and sold your truck already based on what the dealer told me when I could expect my truck.

Yep. When I ordered my 2017, it was just under two months from start to finish. Fast forward five years and my 22 took twice as long. The variations in build times, parts and option availability, and shipping delays is most certain frustrating, especially for those folks who seem to stuck in the twilight zone and are waiting over 6 months with no information and no movement.

Honestly at some point are we going to see dealerships go away and become service centers instead? Almost seems like the dealers really arent doing anything but being the middle man.

We’ve discussed this a bit here, I just don’t see that happening. The one thing that I’ve noticed in all my years of people watching is that people love instant gratification…It is hard to wait for something. People also love to try before they buy, and with the number of options available it would be next to impossible to put them together in a few trucks that are for “showroom use only”.

You’ll have someone with some money and no patience say “what do you want for that?”, and everything has a price…as we’ve seen recently. So a dealer may order a couple trucks to have on hand, but then another dealer in the next town may say “we’ll I’m going to order five more”, and then it becomes a competition for clients.

It’s cyclic, things may change, but they really stay the same.

The last official word I received is that my truck had been built and ready to go, but it would take a couple weeks to get a train because of backlog with the rail system. This was the first time I the dealer had responded to me without the luxury of an updated POC.

This morning I found out (unofficial grapevine) my truck had been in a JS (shipped to storage) status for over two weeks, but just switched to KZ recently. I have no clue to the hold up, probably never will, but it was frustrating watching some vics hop a train while I thought mine had been KZ as well.

Look at Tesla displayed in the mall you can test ride and order it

Yes, and Tesla (as far as I’m aware) has been like that since inception. That’s the difference. Elon Musk didn’t create a mass of dealerships and flood the market with his product…now mainly because the infrastructures to support the EV industry is extremely weak at the moment and flooding the market with cars would drive down their price.

To take the world from buying cars at dealerships as the model we’ve grown up with to ordering from a mall will take time…more than 10 years. As long as there are fossil fuels readily available, the WANT of an affordable auto will keep lots “stocked”.

Payback for jumping me in line ;)

Haha, karma…I know. I probably put too much on the truck and they had to make sure it all worked together!

Is what it is, but it was the first time I could say “but…” So NOW I can empathize with you, DelRed22 , Bigsnowman , and the others who saw others jump them in production with similar builds. It is frustrating.

Or they figured out you're Navy :p

Well Ram Chat tells me today that my ord is in shipping stage and ETA at dealership is 4/3-4/13, however I still don't have a window sticker. He also told me "it is usually closer to the delivery of the vehicle" for the window sticker. Who knows!! I've emailed Sandi so we'll see what she says.

You got the 5th wheel prep group and spray in bedliner. Bedliner is for sure going to an outside vendor. I thought I heard the 5th wheel prep did too. It's likely in JB at the vendor.

Let me know if you hear from her, I sent her a message a few hours ago and haven’t heard back. She’s usually pretty quick to get a response to you. I hope all is well, Houston got hit hard too yesterday.
