2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

Agreed. I would’ve paid an additional fee at the time of order to be able to access a web based tracking system that could’ve detailed and tracked my trucks entire build process. Would be really enjoyable to have cameras staged on specific stages of the assembly line that could snap still photos of your actual truck in different stages of the build process. If they want to move to the custom order model, then take the time and effort to make it an enjoyable process from start to finish. While I recognize that not everyone would be interested in such a thing, I feel confident in saying that a large portion of the truck buyers in this group would have appreciated such a tool. This wasn’t my first custom ordered truck and it certainly won’t be my last, and as someone who sees a purchase like this as more than “just a truck”, it would be nice to have more of a custom experience.

It is odd how in this technology driven world we have that a system like this is not up and running. A vehicle on an assembly line today has to trigger each step and report complete prior to moving through the process, this is tracked digitally in order to move each build through the process efficiently. If there’s data it can be tracked and shared. When I pick up a rental at the airport, they tell me where I can find my vehicle, when I return it the rep scans it, marks down data and put it in a system. Again there’s data that can be tracked and shared.

Seems to me that the problem is only data sharing. Much like some of you service members can agree with me on…there are way too many systems that do not communicate. Anytime your VIN is accessed there could be a running log from ordering your vehicle until it’s destruction, but until data sharing happens we will be at the mercy of those that control it.

Would’ve been nice if they had been able to move the plant back stateside. They could offer an “ultimate owner experience” package that would allow you to visit the plant in person on the day your truck is being built and follow it through the plant. John Deere has been doing this for years with their custom order “Gold Key” program. I believe many of the higher end sports car manufacturers do this too. Ram (Mopar) has always been a leader in unique offerings for its customers. Race prep packages, wild engine options, etc. One would think they would recognize the potential in the truck market for this as well.

Along the same lines, I really do wish that Ram would take more pride and ownership of the Cummins engine in the truck. Would be a nice touch to have more of that integrated into the design of the truck. I always enjoyed the panel on my 93 w250 that had the Cummins message center. I thought that was a nice way to tie in the engine to the interior of the truck. Just a small touch but something that was unique to the truck market. Given the history that goes with that engine option, you’d think they would celebrate it more. Even a little splash screen on the dash with the Cummins logo spinning around when you turn the ignition on…..something. The engine put their heavy duty truck market on the map, and it’s still the main reason they’re the leader today.

Tentative build date was 3/22. Still in scheduling phase as of this mornings Ram Chat. Dealer tells me D status, but the kind fella here told me D1 status as 3/15. And now we continue to wait. Not sure how these guys on here could handle waiting for 4 or more months with no progress. That would drive me crazy. I am at 2 months now, and I cant handle it.

Lucky people only wait 4 months. It took my order 6 months to be built still in Mexico last I heard update. 5.5 months to go to d1 so if you at 2 better sit back and keep waiting

Depending on which rail network your truck is on, you may be able to utilize more than one of these systems to track your railcar. Each one gives slightly different information about location / ETA / etc. I’ve found for the most accurate information you may need to cross reference your railcar with multiple systems. Each system has its own little nuances that take some getting used to when it comes to entering your information.

Thanks so much. Good info.:)

I called the SRT line to check if they had any updates. Hoping to move out of D status on a 12/10 order. No suck luck.

Just the thought of it being a 90k+ vehicle and having to call a number or chat with rambot makes zero sense. I get a text/call each week from the dealer, but I think I will know before them.

I received the same email with the VIN # exactly a month after I ordered. I asked the dealer and he said its basically a welcome message. Dealer had the vin # 2 days after I ordered it.

Agreed. If the industry is really moving towards a custom order model where they don't keep a ton of cars on their lots, they're going to need to improve visibility into the build/shipping process. They could build a lot of customer goodwill by creating a web based system that would allow customers to see what's going on with their orders. I'm sure they must have thought about it and decided the cost of implementing it along with the additional customer service that might be required to answer the "why am I delayed" questions outweighed the benefits.
Absolutely! Especially in this day and age when everything is computerized! There is no reason the same data cannot be put in to a data-base, and I as an ordering customer be given a user name and password to access my build information, along with automatically generated emails when ever there is an update or status change.

It looks like GM doesn't allow order tracking either, but Ford has a vehicle order tacking page.

I have a coworker who ordered a 22 King Ranch 250 before they got that system completely together. He has family ties to a dealership in Tampa that convinced him to order 22 vice a 21. He told me about the ability to log in and check the status of his order and how cool it was, but he barely used it because his experience was done six weeks after production began.

We did talk about paint colors being holdups with Fords too. I was discussing,J-J I think, a dually with that Hydro Blue and how rare it is but that it took forever for it to show up. He told me a similar story about a green Ford offered when he ordered off a paper options list, the color wasn’t there when the ‘22 build site launched.

I think back in the pre covid days, there was no waiting 4-6 months for a truck. The dealers had tons of truck in stock that could appease most buyers and if not the order process was at most a 2-3 month affair so tracking a build wasn't a real concern because they could stick with the timeline pretty easily in most cases. Now with no dealer stock, we are all stuck ordering for the most part as it's the best way to avoid paying well over MSRP for a truck that is in stock. They aren't equipped to provide good tracking data and it's frustrating as hell especially when your an optimistic idiot like me and sold your truck already based on what the dealer told me when I could expect my truck.

Even more so then would be the need for something like this to be built! Sure ordering is becoming the “new norm”, but if it was something few did back then why not make it a full custom experience.

Laying the infrastructure to do this now will take a bit, but if thought out ahead of time…. It’s going to happen, maybe in the next year or two, but this is something that the auto industry definitely missed the boat on.

Agree. I owned 4 new GM's prior to ordering a new Ram. All 4 were dealer trades. My dealer simply found a truck I liked within a reasonable distance, and traded vehicles with that dealer. Easy ....and I had my new truck within a week.

Honestly at some point are we going to see dealerships go away and become service centers instead? Almost seems like the dealers really arent doing anything but being the middle man.

Its a matter of time when you will order online will get a time line and have it delivered to you home
