2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

I don’t think the dealer is responsible. That destination fee has to pay for something other than just fuel. $1800 to ship a vehicle to a dealer? Most full coverage insurances don’t cost that for a year. I’m sure everyone who touches those vehicles must carry insurance for this reason. I would then assume that there are quick visual inspections of each truck before they are signed for by people transporting each one, because I certainly wouldn’t want someone to say “hey, WTF!” and the vehicle be in my possession when that happens.

Ugh. Should’ve ordered a SRW 3500 lol. Wasn’t thinking about upgrading our 38’ TT later on to a 5er. Payload capacity on the 2500 Cummins is way low. Could’ve built a SRW 1 ton Laramie for only 2k more than what I actually ordered. Payload would be 3600 vs 2200 with the truck I have on the way. Oh well. Not upgrading campers for a few years.

Question..

I placed an order in mid Feb for a 2022 Laramie NE etc. Over this past weekend I have decided I want Ramboxes.. After playing with the builds for essentially an additional $2K I could get a limited with everything I want. I do have a VIN but still in D status..

Will it be possible for dealer to make the changes?

If not I am content with walking away from my deposit $500 if that is the only option. Any guidance from the group is much appreciated.

I know I know i should have been 100% sure prior to placing the order, I feel like an ass, but that ship has sailed..

You can always ask, but I was told that once it has a VIN changes can't be made. I would check with the dealer to see if they would let you re-order and apply your deposit to that one.

I doubt you can change it. But if you decide to order another truck I am sure the dealer will order it for you and should waive the deposit on the old on. When I ordered mine, my dealer told me I could just walk away from it if I wanted since they need inventory anyways; they would just put it on the lot. Also my truck went up almost $3k since I ordered it so they would make an additional $3k or more on the truck if I don;t take it. Just my opinion but I am sure they will work with you specially if you tell them either way you are walking away and the only difference is if they get the new truck order from you or another dealer does.

I had a VIN in D status and asked about fixing a POC, but both items were listed. This is what Sandi told me…

You can submit a change request, but it’s 50/50 whether it will be honored or not AND it could affect you protected price.

She submitted mine and told me to wait 72 hrs to see what the status was. It came back good to go and didn’t affect my price, but again, I was only removing something that was doubled up on my build (2 different sets of sidesteps).

I’d talk it over with my dealer and see what they offer. $500 is pretty trivial when it comes to the savings you get from certain dealers over others. Of course, I’d hate to lose $500 period.

Thanks all for the quick replies!

Yes I agree $500 bones is tivial at this level of spend.. Lord knows I have wasted $500 on dumber things!

With it being a completely different trim I am doubtful they can change and will likely have to reorder. I have a bit of a relationship with the GM so I'm sure he will honor the deposit on the new if possible. I think the only real loss will be my timeline pushing back by 30 days or so, but I'm in no real hurry and it's worth the wait to get what I want.

Make the change. You’ll be sorry if you didn’t.

How far are you into the wait time?

I was 5 weeks into a build then cancelled and reordered because NE became available in Laramies again in that time. I still don’t have my truck yet, but glad I made the change.

Yeah I agree!

I ordered Feb 12 so not quite a month.. Were you able to have your deposit applied to the new order?

Not true - ask for change about a week after I had VIN - had to go thru channels and took a week to get OK - depends on what you need to change and where it is in process of gathering / build and probably whether dealer and Regional Rep are in a good mood.

Talk to dealer, you may be able to change (cancel & reorder) or considering the prices they are asking for used, you may be able to trade against a 3500.
What I found was price of 3500 vs 2500 in same trim with same equipment was about the same within less than $500. But if you go 3500 consider the HO - wish I had.

Maybe I misunderstood the original poster as stating the dealership transported the truck to his location either on their own accord or through a transporter hired by the dealership. At this point Stellantis has already invoiced the dealer and the truck becomes property of the dealership once it has arrived at the dealership.

Once the truck is on the ground at the dealership neither Stellantis nor their hired transporter is responsible unless it was damaged while in their possession. Rail Companies maintain millions of dollars in insurance as does shipping by boat. Many of the larger Transport Companies carry $500K in Cargo Insurance and $5M in Liability. These are the 10 Car Carriers, the big rigs, the semi's or what ever you wish to call them.

It's the smaller 3-4-5 car carriers who struggle to maintain the minimum insurance requirements. I was an Insurance Compliance Manager for Manhiem Auto Auctions and my job was to make sure over 500 automobile transport companies were properly insured. Trust me! I know how to cheat the system!

I know I've seen it asked and answered here before but I can't find it. My truck is on its 2nd of 3 trains and I'm trying to figure out if there is a way that I can track it.

I'm mainly trying to figure out where and when-ish it will be unloaded and waiting for its last ride on a truck
