RECALL: Ram Recalls Certain 2021 Ram Heavy Duty Cummins Models:
Chassis Cab Models Included In Recall...
Stellantis recalling approximately 19,214 of its 2021 Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab trucks equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six-cylinder turbo diesel engine due to risk of fire. According to the automaker, the engine can experience an engine compartment fire originating from the Solid State Intake Heater Grid Relay.
Of those 19,214 Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cabs, here are the numbers of each of the models affected by the recall.
- 10,429 – Ram 2500 – Built from August 5th, 2020 to January 8th, 2021
- 5,216 – Ram 3500 – Built from August 3rd, 2020 to January 8th, 2021
- 887 – Ram 3500 Chassis Cab – Built from August 12th, 2020 to January 8th, 2021
- 2,682 – Ram 4500/5500 Chassis Cab – Built from November 13th, 2020 to January 8th, 2021
The suspect period began August 3rd, 2020, when production of Ram 3500 equipped with the relay began and ended on January 8th, 2021 when Stellantis introduced protective tape into production. The suspect period was determined using field data and engineering change records.
According to the recall, an electrical short in the Relay can potentially lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off. Stellantis says that the vehicle fire can result in an increased risk to the occupants of the vehicle and for the customer not to park their vehicles in their garage as a potential fire could lead to an increased risk of property damage and/or persons outside the vehicle.

The automaker does have a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. Stellantis has issued the recall code Y08 for this recall. Customers are encouraged to call the Stellantis Recall Assistance Center at 1-800-853-1403 for any questions. There an agent can confirm if there are any recall repairs that must be performed on your vehicle.
