Ram Brazil Releases Details On Its 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie Pickup:
Brazilian-Spec Ram Adds More Standard Features, But Is Only Trim-Level Available...
More than a decade has passed since becoming an independent brand within the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) group, the Ram Truck brand continues to showcase its updated lineup globally with the introduction of the Brazilian market 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie. Officially imported into Brazil since 2005, the Ram 2500 has been the pickup truck of choice for the Brazilian rural buyer. We briefly touched on the Brazilian-spec Ram 2500 late last year during the truck’s introduction, but now that the truck is reaching Brazilian dealers we are getting our first true look at what sets this truck apart from the North American offerings.
Just like the North American-spec 2020 Ram 2500, the Brazilian models get new styling elements like a hood with more prominent creases and a more “muscular” look, a bold new grille design (taken from the North American Limited model), new wheel design, new LED headlamps with distinctive LED signature daytime running lights, new LED tail lamps with integrated blind-spot monitoring, and a new tailgate design. On that new tailgate, the new 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie features “RAM” inscription in bold chrome letters, which replaces the Ram’s head logo from last year.
The new Brazilian-spec 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie features the 12-Inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. The award-winning and intuitive multimedia system from FCA, which includes the largest screen among the pickups in the national market. In addition to the size, which helps in visualization, the monitor can have the image divided in two, for carrying out different operations, such as the air conditioning controls and the integrated GPS navigation. The Laramie also features a 9-speaker Alpine sound system with a subwoofer that features an active external noise cancellation system, similar to that found in the most sophisticated headphones.
The 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie also features a 360° camera system, which allows the driver to see images from four cameras around the truck (one on the front grille, two on the rearview mirror arms, and one on the handle of the tailgate). Laramie trucks also feature a bed camera in the third brake light, allowing the driver to monitor his load or trailer with ease from inside the cab of the truck.
In terms of safety, the 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie goes beyond items like the standard six airbags, stability control, traction controls, and rollover mitigation controls. Being the largest pickup in the Brazilian market, Ram Trucks has now equipped the new Ram 2500 Laramie with rear cross-traffic alert – which warns the driver, by means of audible signals with the movement of vehicles passing behind the truck.
Another novelty feature is the new blind-spot monitoring system, which works with visual alerts in the side rear-view mirrors (and can be equipped with an audible tone). Speaking of the exterior mirrors, Ram engineers redesigned them, making them electrically foldable with longer arms which allows them to be placed vertically in addition to the traditional horizontal position. There are newly added courtesy lights under the arms of the mirrors, that allow the driver to illuminate around the vehicle for those nightly trailer hookups.
Under the hood, only one powertrain is available for the Brazilian market, the legendary 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel. With 365 horsepower @ 2,800 rpm and 850 lb.-ft. of torque @ 1,700 rpm. The mighty Cummins is backed by a significantly upgraded version of the 68RFE six-speed automatic transmission. Changes designed to improve the electronically controlled transmission’s shift quality include new variable-force solenoid controls for the torque-converter clutch. A new reverse accumulator improves shift feel when placing the transmission into park from reverse. Drive-to-park shifts were also improved through refined hydraulic control.
Inside, the new instrument panel combines a strong, structurally interlocking appearance, pushing the central controls up and toward the driver, improving the overall reachability of system controls. The 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie features a 7-Inch, full-color, 3D animation-capable driver information display, with a reconfigurable function that enables Ram truck drivers to personalize information inside the instrument cluster. The display is designed to visually communicate information, using graphics and text, quickly, and easily.
For 2020, two new body colors are added to the options list for Brazil – Patriot Blue and RV Match Walnut Brown. Those two colors join Flame Red, Billet Silver, Granite Crystal, Pearl White, and Diamond Black. In addition to the traditional black interior, a new elegant combination of brown and beige is also available. The Ram 2500 Laramie is the only package available in Brazil, at a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of R $ 289,900 (or $65,135 USD). The Ram 2500 Laramie is available at 45 Ram Truck dealerships across Brazil.
