I have never had to pull the front cover when towing the only time the truck has gotten above the normals temps for me is with the plow on as it redirects the windYes you need to open another one, and yes you should pull it to tow.
I always pull it to tow, even when it’s well below freezing.

28° here this morning and I’m running 188-190° at 50-55.
In the owners manual it say acceptable ect range is 180-206 and short peaks of 225 is ok under towing conditions
