Not knowing if you’ve had tint before just want to point out that it’s kind of a cumulative thing. By that I mean 70% on a windshield with say 50% on the rest of the windows is going to look a lot different than 70% on the windshield with 5% everywhere else.
There’s tons of places in dfw that will install air80 or equivalent but not many that will go darker on the windshield.
As you’ve already pointed out, any tint - whether it’s 80% vlt or 5% - below the as1 line is illegal. But the tint shops seem to ignore that for 70 or 80% and call it “clear” whatever the f that means.
I run 50% on the windshield with 5% on front/back glass and 15% on rear (so total vlt comparing front to rear matches better and looks more uniform). My wife has air80 on her windshield. Not much of a difference at night between the two in my opinion but a big difference during bright daylight sun rising/setting in your face hours.
I ran the same tint in my previous truck for 4 years and never had anyone that rode comment on the windshield being dark. Could be because my front glass was dark and that took their attention? But I think you’d be surprised how 70%, or even 50%, isn’t noticeable.
