When is the facelift coming out?

Where? With a diesel? No they haven't. They've been testing them, on a track, in closed course conditions. That is not real world representative. Only recently have they put test mules on the road.

And if they've been testing them since 2018 why haven't they introduced them prior to now? Hmmm.....problems maybe?

Show me one vehicle that has a new powertrain combo that doesn't go through numerous software updates after release before they get it right. My bet here is that ZF didn't want their name on it until it was mechanically right. Software aside, which will be updated as units hit the street.

Little thing called COVID got in the way I think.
ZF just finished the factory for the Powerline transmission last May. Can’t put the transmission under the truck if there’s no factory to build it. These same transmissions are in Kenworth medium duty trucks.

If the transmissions are used in Kenworth's, why would they need to build a factory to supply them?

ZF manufactures the transmission in their factory and then ships them to PACCAR for assembly in the trucks. The Powerline 8 is sold as the “PACCAR PX-8” but they’re the same transmission.
 
The video is on ZF's website, my guess is it will be an 8AP 1200T ZF
 
Some pretty strong opinions that Ram hasn't had this ZF trans out and on the road for years at this point. You would have no way of knowing if they did/didn't unless you had inside knowledge or started crawling under every ram HD to look under the trans and see if it was a testing model or not. I presume they likely have close to a million miles of total road testing on the new ZF.

I'd also wager a guess that Ram is very aware of the general perception of the 68rfe, or dodge trans in general. They are likely wanting to avoid any negative remarks on the ZF trans, so I'm guessing they have done a ton of road testing.

Also, as said above, it's one thing for ZF to support semi truck numbers, it's a very different thing to support light duty diesel truck scale.

I don't know what the outcome of this new trans will be, but I'd be really surprised if it's not far better than the 68rfe in every measurable way. Time will tell if it can hold up like the Aisin does, but I have hope.
