What is your favorite truck cap with sliding windows?

That looks gorgeous. So since you must have done a bunch of research, what is the difference between the Xtra Vision and the Rebel? Does it just have bigger side View attachment 31385View attachment 31386

Here is my 2017 with the same shell.

Much bigger side windows. I don’t know about the rear window but mine isn’t framed. I added the front slider fold down window and the pro lock at the rear so I can use my truck key fob to lock/unlock it. I think they throw in the front window right now on a promotion. I did not get the sportsman package because I’m not hauling on the roof. It’s my second xtra vision. I had one on my 2017 delmonico red 2500 but traded it in for the maximum steel. Both matched perfectly.
THis actually looks more similar to the XR like John posted above than the Rebel does. Now that I look in the catalog, it seems the Rebel has much smaller windows than both the Xtra Vision and the XR

Note:
- This is not a topper we would recommend. Reason being is that the Oversized Side
Slider Window Frames will start to warp over time and will leak. This does not happen on the standard sized side slider windows found in the Cab-Hi, Rebel and Hi-Liner Models.

when I inquired about the Xtravision this was the reply I got back.

Interesting. I wonder if that is more of an issue with the long bed than the short bed.

I could see that happening if one were to run off-road a ton. I think any fiberglass shell would have some of the same problems. I didn’t have issues after 4 1/2 years though. I had it on a lot of dirt roads, but never really romped on it hard. We have a Jeep for that.

it was an inquiry for my 6'4" Power wagon. It was from a reputable dealer that sold both Snugtop and RSI and they were very pro Snugtop.

@John Jensen @SierraHog
Do either of you have the gasket/seal from the shell to the truck cab?
I am curious if the truck AC will cool down the inside of the shell when the dogs are back there in the summer time....
Any thoughts or experience

It’s my understanding they stopped putting those on years ago. Too much damage caused to the cab paint. I had one on a Stockland shell back in the early 90’s and it destroyed my cab, even with a clear plastic film attached. I didn’t see it as an option when I ordered. Sorry, I’m not much help with the boot idea.

As far as cooling, I open the front slider and both rear windows. It keeps the dogs cool when I’m moving them around. I don’t leave them in there long unless we are up in the mountains at the lakes, etc.

I appreciate the response.
My thought to prevent paint damage, was to install PPF on the back of the cab surrounding the window, where the boot would make contact. Again, just preliminary thoughts at the moment.

We often travel through Az. during the summer months. Its not uncommon for temps to sit around 110-115 degrees and our dogs are too large to be in the cab of the truck.

Years ago, we removed the truck rear window and the shell window and had a "boot" custom made with heavy vinyl that snapped to the inside of the cab and the inside of the shell. Was excellent for cooling the back and no damage to cab. Tried a foam one and a blowup one, but they wouldn't stay in place.

I don't even know if they make a gasket/seal anymore.

I recently saw a truck and shell with an RV A/C unit on top of the shell. Have no idea how it was powered.

that a recent change?

The Snugtop Rebel that I had on my 4th gen definitely hung over the sides. But then again, that was over 5 years ago, so it definitely could have changed since then.
My experience with non-overlapping Snugtops goes a lot longer back than 5 years ago. Your post tells me they no longer make it to sit on top of the bed (no overlapping). Thanks for the info.

dm6,
Take note, My Snugtop comment is probably not valid.

Well, the fit and finish is nowhere near what I had on my 2017 Xtra Vision. I had the shell installed the day I made that first post. After a couple days of driving it around, I found the shell is dripping white stuff all over the side of my truck. Any ideas what this goo might be? I tried washing it off several times and it keeps returning. Also, the screen is pulling apart and they forgot 2 screws in my window frame. Looks like they fell out before they installed my shell. Not happy with SnugTop right now.

Looks like that cap got super excited after mounting that truck!

Hope your fit and finish issues are things you can live with. Otherwise I hope they make it right for you. I could live with my fit and finish issues on my ARE. Of course, they blamed the ‘Rona.

Damn, you went there! Ha! I think you’re right. Couldn’t handle the pressure of being mounted to that bad a.. Limited Longhorn.

They are working on a solution. I can get the window and screen fixed. I wish I knew what the drippings were. Could the fiberglass be flawed or is it just the dust dripping? Who knows.

Well, you are boiling the cabbage down, so to speak. My thoughts:
1 - The Leer overhangs the sides, a look I like better, and by design can't leak. Also, every Leer I purchased the carpeted interior was a free incentive. Have never paid extra for it.
2 - The Snugtop does not hang over the sides. Makes it the only choice if you want to add a lumber rack.
Good choices, keep us informed
I went ahead and ordered an XR. It was almost the same price as the Rebel, but after seeing these pictures, I like the Xtra Vision more than the Rebel but it was almost $1000 more! I like the look of your XR because the windows really follow the lines of the back of the canopy and in the pictures I saw, it seems like the Rebel doesn't follow them like the XR or Xtra Vision do. Either way, I am sure they are pretty comparable. I got the drop down slider, the headliner, the remote locks, and pet screens. We'll see how long it takes now. Thanks for all of the good input.

I have sliders with screens in my ARE. They have two different types of screens. A finer one, which is what I chose, for bugs. They also have a thicker beefier one that’s heavier duty for dogs.

I had a few gripes with the quality control and it took a while to be built (during covid) and there were build issues, but overall I would purchase again.
Amen...large prince increase, low quality builds with even worse quality control. If I were the OP, I'd wait a year. Prices will drop and builds will improve.
