Vibration in Steering, Seat and Truck after 3 sets of New Tires

I wonder if somebody at that dealership botched the alignment. I just got a set of new 37's, I mounted and balanced the tires myself in my own shop on AEV Saltas, admittedly i had some issues chasing weights on 2 of the tires, but I got it close, and the truck has a vibration over 65mph in the seat and steering wheel, and you can kinda feel a little shimmy now and then at lower speeds, but otherwise it still tracks perfectly straight.

I thought maybe I botched the balancing since I've never done 37's and was struggling. So I took the truck to a good local shop with a roadforce balancer, they said the tires balanced out great for aggressive 37's, less than 3 - 4 onces on each tires. However there was some cupping developing on the front tires after only a couple days and maybe 150 miles of driving. I figured the cupping, like the vibration, was because i screwed up on the balancing. However even after the road force balancing the vibration in the seat and steering wheel remains at the exact same speed.

The wheels and tires I took off for the season, I've had for a couple years, and they're 285/75R18 Wildepeak AT3's on stock rims. I never once had a vibration at any speed with those wheels and tires, and the truck always tracked perfectly straight. I decided just in case I should give them a closer look to see, maybe I've got an alignment issue that's been unmasked and exaggerated by the newer bigger tires. Well, sure enough, my 2 front wild peaks are a little cupped, the rears were perfect. My truck has 37,000 miles on it, always been babied, it's not daily driven anymore, I never got an alignment because I never knew i needed one, the truck always tracked straight and I never had any vibrations or noticeable tire wear (probably because i rotate when I swap them every season). I immediately scheduled an alignment for my truck and expect that to take care of my issues.

I believe an inexperienced grease monkey seriously botched the OP's alignment, and I bet either they let the same guy align it the 2nd time, OR they didn't actually align it a 2nd time. Also it would make sense the appointment took 6 hours if the tech was stumbling his way through the whole process.

If it hasn't been resolved yet, I'd take the truck to a different shop in the area with a known good reputation for tire & alignment services and see what they find.

Did you take the brake rotor retaining washers off when you put the new wheels on?

I can tell you from experience the rear track bar bushing gets torn up and will cause shaking. My PXL did it until I changed it, the 2018 I just got is doing it and have a Thuren rear bar to install. Worth looking into but it won’t cause steering wheel vibrations, just the seat and cab vibrations

*Face palm* thank you for the reminder I totally forgot, this is the first set of aftermarket wheels I've put on the truck. Everything else has been different Mopar wheels until now, so I'll do that when I get home tonight lol.

Still think I'm due for an alignment though.

Could be still needing an alignment it never hurts to have it checked. I'm surprised no one has caught that yet the tire shops should be showing the workers this I'm sure they have seen it before lol.

Also if you don’t rotate the tires enough solid axle trucks tend to start to cup the fronts.

I don't think the clips are my issue, I'm removing them anyway, but the AEV wheels seem to be machined to accommodate them.

I have been working with RAM and they gave a list of RAM dealerships to take it to. Only one so far has agreed to look at it given the situation and that RAM is involved.

All I will say for now, is read, READ, the full details of every single page of your warranty and extended warranty as knowing and understanding what it means has saved our skin.

Morning ya'll!
I could really use ya'lls guidance here cause I'm out of reasons at this point.
2020 2500 RAM Big Horn 6.4L

My husband and I took our truck in to the local dealership to get the fuel filter changed, new tires and an alignment on 8/3.

Took the dealership 6 hrs, with an appointment. Once we drove off the lot, the vibration in the truck and steering was horrible. Not safe to drive at all. Our truck didn't vibraite not one bit when we dropped it off. Dealership ask to keep the truck until Monday to get a second set of tires as the first set had flat spots.

Three sets of tires, 2 alignments, and 3 weeks later, our truck still vibrates. In the truck, seat and steering wheel.
After three sets of tires they said two wheels were bent. Dealership put the bent wheels in the back, what would cause the whole truck and the steering vibrate after a new set of tires, 3 new sets and 2 alignments?

The truck didn't vibrate when we pulled into their bay and our wheels were absolutely not bent. I have 1000 more questions about the dealership but I won't ask that here.

I'm open to what and where to look for a solution as the dealership said to take it somewhere else.
Alrighty...... another update.
A few other dealerships and wheel/tire shops all confirmed, all four wheels were bent either by not loading on the balance machine correctly or they were over torqued when putting them back on, or possibly both AND recommend to replace all four wheels and all four tires.

RAM FCA refused to help.
The dealership refuses to take responsibility.

I absolutely hate to seek legal council however it seems that's the only option we have at this point.
Quate from another dealership for replacement wheels will cost $1660 each.
Tires at $360. And these are fancy 37 inch wheels or anything, they are stock!
Stuff happens but this will cost us upwards of $12k. This has been a wild journey.
Never will I support Chrysler products again.

Get inexpensive but decent aftermarket wheels, don’t replace the tires….see what is up after.
Discount Tire or some place akin.

Sorry to hear this!

Like the gentleman above stated, I suggest getting good wheels like Fuel or Method and reuse the tires. Will be a fraction of the price. A lot easier to try and recoup $1500 than $12k!

That truly is a shame tho. I’ve seen horror stories with all sorts of dealers including Mercedes Benz and high end exotic dealers. Very unfortunate.
