Trade in/sell

Just for sh*ts and grins, I contacted Carvana, Carmax and Vroom and received a quote for selling my 2020 Tradesman 2500, 6.4 gasser. Carvana offered $42,750, Carmax $46,000 and Vroom $46,650. My Tradesman has a few options but nothing special and I only paid $43,450 back in September. I really don't want to sell but damn, getting 3 grand more that you paid is a little tempting.
Except that incentives on new have all but disappeared and dealers are getting stingy. I just ran the numbers on another truck like mine and the trade was higher by the same amount as my truck was already discounted(on the similar truck, they were only discounting $500). Of course, I could not be without my truck for the summer, so I bought off the lot. I am happy, more importantly, the wife is happy. All a wash, in the end.

Because i have a carmax site in town i have gotten quotes from them first before going
in the regular dealership for my last two vehicle purchases.
If they lowballl your trade-in you can then show them a printed offer from carmax and tell the sale idiot to put up or shut up...

I looked to see what carmax would offer. They probably don't believe I have a like new 2020 with only 5K on it.

P.S. They don't have an option listing for HO.

Online offers are based on recent appraisals of similar cars, and we haven't seen many like yours lately. For your 7-day offer, stop by your local CarMax.

Got the same quote from Carmax for my 2020 Megacab 3500.....Vroom basically did the same thing too.....their specialists have to "review the information" and they will get back to me within 2 days...

I traded my 2014 Audi RS5 to Carvana. Was absolutely seemless and at the time was within $2k of what I could get private market and over $6k what the local dealership (not and Audi dealer) offered......
 
My dealership offered 50k for my ‘17 Mega Cummins.

Carvana offered about 53.5k.

I posted it on Autotrader and sold it in less than 48 hours for 58.5k

I could get way more than what I paid for my truck but then I run the risk of getting a replacement that is a POS and has quality issues. Been there, done that. This truck has been great to me so far and that's not a risk I'm willing to take this day in age. I don't think people look at the big picture.
 
I just typed into Vroom and have an offer of $52,617. My truck was just under $59K MSRP and I paid just over $52 for it with supplier pricing, so I would call that a really good offer if I actually did want to get out. The problem with getting out is that I can't find the unicorn that I would need to replace mine and I do not have 4-6 months to wait to get another unit ordered and built. So I have to stay where I am at....

That is why I feel so lucky to have found my truck last week. Same boat, couldn’t afford to be without my truck for the summer. Local dealers wanted to buy my truck but had no inventory and stuck to close to MSRP or just a little off(now they are at MSRP). Like I said before, running the numbers I got a decent deal whereas I got more than I paid for my truck 3 years ago and got my new one at 9% off MSRP. Good enough for these times.I could have ordered at 12% off but not worth waiting. Beats the heck outta last years near miss on a 500 mi. 2019 limited, I almost bought. I dodged a bullet there. Dealer lowballed my truck and held to there new price. Walked out.
 
I just got a quote from Vroom too. '19 Longhorn Hemi, MSRP $65k paid $57k Vroom offered $59. Funny thing is that KBB says trade in value is $64k. Going to the dealership tomorrow to get the cab mount replaced. Might look at a 75A power wagon while I'm there just to see how close they can get.

WeBuyAnyCar was offering big money on vehicles up till the end of last month, April. I was scheduled to sell my '19 2500 Limited to them for 65k, two hours prior to my appointment they called and informed me they dropped the purchase price to 60 and change, No sale!!!! with all the craziness of the market while waiting on my '21 arrival, I posted my truck for sale and had many many dealers reach out trying to purchase it. When WeBuy lowered it I contacted Car Shop ( formally Car Sense in PA, bought out by Penske Auto Group) and they bought it on the spot for 65k We Buy also drastically lowered the buying price on the wife's Honda, I believe they were being way to aggressive. Manheim Auction also stopped providing market values on my RAM and would only provide recent sales, I believe even though new vehicles are getting harder and harder to get, the used market is taking a step back. If you have a great offer on your vehicle, and are serious about getting a new, take the offer before its too late....

No dice for me. The truck they had on lot sold last night (deposit hold anyway) so didn't bother getting into the financials.

I ran my 2020 Ecodiesel through Vroom, Autonation, and Carvana. Autonation and Carvanas offers were laughable really. But Vroom offered 44,800 on my truck a week ago. The offer expired yesterday so I ran it again and it went up to $47,200. I will be using their offer as leverage when I figure out what I want to order at the dealer. If the dealer doesn't want to match or beat it, I'll just sell it to Vroom
 
I had a 2020 bighorn 4x4 earlier this month, Vroom offered me 3K over what I bought it for 11 months ago.. I had 10,000 miles on it. I used it as leverage for my new 2021 HD diesel. It worked well. I caught it at just the right time and the dealer still had some trucks on the lot they were dealing on..pure luck on the timing. Vroom beat carmax and another which I can't remember. Pretty painless, just send them the vin and answer some questions and an offer shows up 5 minutes later.

I let the Zroom offer expire because I really don't want to sell. Just got an e-mail where they asked for me to resubmit and I did. Their offer is now up to $47,900. Dang, the MSRP on my truck is $47,660 so they're offering over MSRP. I've never seen or heard of this kind of deals ever! From my research, looks like the computer chip shortage that's causing manufacturing delays is the culprit. My research also shows that when vehicles start reappearing at dealerships, price increases are not expected. Since I mainly use my truck only to tow my RV, I could sell, wait out the delays, get a new truck and pocket a couple grand. Tempting to say the least.
 
Saw this thread, and for the heck of it, went online to see what Vroom would offer for my truck. Holy crap, they are offering $71K for my truck with 20K miles on it. I only paid $66K for it new. Kinda has me thinking now, been looking at long beds....
 
I got offered $3,000 less than factory invoice ($8,000 less than MSRP) on my 2020 3500 DRW Tradesman with 4,800 miles. I'll pass.
