Aside from the fact I would lose money on my mods, I would take a bath in the CA taxes. CA does not give you credit for your trade-in against the taxes on a new vehicle. There is over a 5K loss right there.

Seriously? So if you bought a '20 and paid 100% sales tax and then trade it in on a '21, you then have to pay tax on the entire purchase price (before trade-in) on the '21 too? Holy crap. I knew CA was a friggin tax sewer but I did not realize it was that bad! What is the tax rate?
Absolutely 100%.
Why in gods name would anyone live in a place like that? In the past I had to spend a good deal of time working there from time to time but at no time did I ever have the slightest inclination to put up with all the crap that living there would result in.

Mexico is just 90 minutes away as well.
Sounds like you should live in Mexico and travel to CA for fun.The base sales tax rate in CA is 7.25%. But in some counties, it can be up to 10%! Fortunately, I don't live in one of those counties. Don't get me started on income tax rate. You pay dearly to live out here.
I hate the cost of living in CA and the flipping politics but you can't beat the weather. We also have the mountains, desert, and the ocean close by. I can be in or on the ocean in 20 minutes, up on a 6000+ mountain in 45 minutes, or out in the wide open desert in 90 minutes. So many places to do disperse camping if you know where to go. Mexico is just 90 minutes away as well.
Ouch.Absolutely 100%.
