I am looking to get an average towing mpg others are getting. I just came back from a 2035 mile trip pulling a 5200 lb enclosed trailer this is a v style front and my average was 11.2 mpg running about 70 mph. I think this is low considering I get 21 mpg average on every tank. I also used 7/8 of a tank of def.

You can see my truck in my signature. I would say between 10 and 11.5 mpg is what I get towing my 8,000 lb. TT. Empty, I got about 19 mpg before I put my canopy on. Now I seem to be getting 19.5 to 20. My truck seems to use more DEF than yours. It does a regen exactly every 24 hours of engine time even though I have never seen my DPF gauge much above 0%.

I get right at 10-11 pulling my 36’ 10,000 lbs travel trailer at 65 mph.

Mine regens at about the same cycle I have never seen the gauge show anything but 0% this seems excessive the commercial 6.7 does not do this

Def usage is 4:1 fuel

Hook anything to an EPA crippled CTD and it goes to 10 or less.

I get 8-9 towing 16K at 70MPH. It gets worse if there's a lot of big hills or strong headwinds.

Pretty much identical to Brutal, I pulled my 13,500 LB Grand Design fifth wheel 1300 miles 2 weeks ago and averaged 8.5 MPG every fill up with hand calculating. Surprisingly, it was always within 0.2 MPG of what the dash was claiming. I was refilling every half tank (when my butt got sore), would reset the trip B, reset the curved MPG gage, would fill and record miles on the trip since last fill, record the gallons to fill and divide. It never got better as I went south to the flat lands, I had expected that it would.

Driving to and from work along the river edge (flat) 250 miles a week I average 17.5 MPG if I baby it and drive for fuel economy.

Just finished our first trip with our '21 3500 long bed SRW pulling a 15K 5th wheel. Truck has 1900 miles and we drove about 330 miles home from taking delivery in the VA mountains. We averaged 10.4MPG which i thought was pretty good for the weight we were pulling.

Thanks for everyone’s help. This is my first ram I usually have a Duramax and I am extremely disappointed in the fuel mileage this truck gets compared to the GM. Has anyone seen improvements in towing MPG with custom tuning and leaving the emissions in tact?

My '14 was tuned and missing parts. The milage averaged about 1 to 1.5 more than this one.

My trip up north towing a 14K fiver, I was averaging around 9 or so MPG according to the dash computer. About what I expected.

This is my setup. I am at about 9000-9500 pounds. My Truck is an 21/3500/HO/373. I drive 65 most of the time. Sometimes a little more and obviously way less when the road or traffic dictates it. I think I used 4 containers of DEF but I lost count. I do think this Truck does really well on DEF compared to my last couple Trucks so it is pretty much a non issue for me. Had a lot of good weather on this trip so not much harsh head wind that I can recall.

12 Days
5441 miles
93Hrs, 49 Minutes drive time.
$1407 Fuel
457 Gallons
$300 hotel (3 nights) Otherwise slept in Truck.

I have a 6000 mile trip coming up and if I can get almost 12 mpg that would be a huge cost savings

Personally, I don't think you'll see mileage that good but 10 MPG or so is realistic. I have an SRW, SO and avg about 9.5 or so on flat roads going 70MPH. Perhaps the AISIN tranny is more efficient on the H/Os and they can do better even though they're a bit heavier.

Back several weeks ago from a 3,000 mile trip pulling my 15K lb 5th wheel. '19 3500 SRW HO SB, and averaged 10.2 mpg for the trip. Went through DEF like a drunken sailor.

11 mpg. Average.

4.10 gears for me. 70 mph really eats into mileage, I try to stay at 65.6E2775FB-5378-451A-92CA-6DAF1960B0E5.jpeg
