Tailgate warning

Just an update. I had some issues with an out of signal range and battery low warnings on the unit that I installed. The vendor was very responsive and sent me a new replacement with revised algorithms that seems to be working well. I no longer get poor signal or low power warnings. When the tailgate opens , the red warning LED illuminates along with a loud audible warning. The beeping lasts around 10 seconds and stops while the LED stays lit. If you are running with the tailgate down, then at least the display unit is quiet. When installing the replacment I made a couple of changes. I installed a cigar lighter angle adaptor so the Intelagate unit was on a proper angle for viewing and also relocated the sensor from the upper left to the lower right of the tailgate so it was not so obvious. I am quite happy with the unit and espcially the vendor's customer service. No longer paranoid about my tailgate.

Just thinking. A magnetic switch, a little wire and an idiot light in the cab would do the trick.
I have also seen that a restraining cable on the tailgate could be used to keep it from dropping completely

Yup, that would probably work. However I was not prepared to engineer and install what you are suggesting since the Intelagate was a five minute install and I am getting too old to run wires from the back of the truck to the front.

Just a thought but something I may do just because. I’m old also but can lay on the ground pretty easy. I may fall asleep though because I’m 70 yo and need naps..

I have considered adding a simple $10 magnetic tailgate light switch wired into the ignition and an indicator light in the cab to remind me when I forget to put the tailgate back up. So far I have forgot to close the tailgate only once in the last year, but had nothing in the bed to lose. So it is not a priority. I probably will never add it unless I am going to be under the truck running wires for something else, but it would be really simple to do. Using the same magnetic tailgate switch It would also be easy to add a buzzer under the dash with a delay off timer relay for a short audible warning that the tailgate has opened while the ignition is on or is open when turning on the ignition.

When the '19 1500's first came out, I bought one. The tailgate down sensor went out immediately. The tailgate down light stayed on for three months while the sensor was on backorder. I'd rather just look at the tailgate or turn the camera on if I'm conserned.

IIRC when shopping for my 2024 HD, the only advertised model year change from 2023 to 2024 was the addition of a tailgate ajar warning indicator.

I first read the title to this string and thought, " what a silly first world problem"....Then I remembered the day I took off and made some corners with my tail gate down and **** fell out and the stinger on the trailer bent the tail gate

Done it. Got to the campground, dropped the tailgate to get some crap outta the back, then went to back the trailer into the spot and didn't put the gate back up. Ooops. Crunched it pretty good. I did my best to straighten out the damage but I sold the truck with a wrinkled tailgate. Kinda like launching the boat and forgetting to put the drain plug back in, I hope leaving the tailgate down is a mistake I only make once.

Glad I am not the only knucklehead :D There is a channel on You Tube called the Drain Plug Mafia. Nothing like watching boat launch fails.

Chit Show is good. Plus is the crocodile.

There's a couple channels that run Haulover Inlet fails that are fun to watch.

I have never done that as I make it routine to install it as I unstrap the back and take the transom saver off.

but I can believe lots of people forget just like they don’t know how to back up a boat or put the vehicle in park when they get out of the vehicle on the ramp (seen this one a few times)

My personal favorite, is using a little car or a 2wd truck to launch a boat, better yet the guy with the 4x4 that does not know how to engage 4x4. :D Haulover is just insane.

I have to pull out my coworkers 30ft house boat every year as the weight will lift his f150 back end off the ground and his 4wd hardly ever works lol at least he knows more than enough not to try it!..
