Steering wheel controls stop working

Yea, that would make me nervous having them work on it if that's what they think. How do they think all of the wiring gets from the lower steering column through the spinning steering wheel?
Tomorrow I will talk again about the clock spring! Let's see what they will argue. I will give news here on the forum

I bought a ‘24 2500 8/7. Today 8/10 I noticed the left side buttons on steering wheel are not working. Tradesman so no controls on back of steering wheel. Just screen control and call buttons.

Have not disconnected batteries. Want to give dealer first shot to get issue documented. Will take to dealer Monday.

Any suggestion’s appreciated.

At dealership service this morning 8 am ,8/12. Service valet mentioned second vehicle this morning with same issue. Service advisor implied he had never seen it before.

So, I have the exact same issue you have with the screen buttons and back radio buttons. So just disconnecting battery seems to work? My truck is a 2024 RAM 2500 Limited with only 526 miles on it. They said they can get it in for at least a week. How long you remove battery cable. Just quick remove and add back or keep it off for a bit?
Same issue same truck and nearly the same Miles... steering wheel controls and dash frozen

Not impressed .. I had a Toyota many years ago start like this that landed in lemon law court

I'm having the same problem, all steering wheel controls dead except cruise. They have replaced clock spring and cruise switch, no change.

I have had this problem for 9 months and the factory has not been able to resolve it. I have gone to court to get the amount paid for the vehicle back, I see no other alternative.

Seems a little extreme. Maybe find another Ram dealer.

WOW. Please keep us updated on the court thing. I am almost there.

The dealer who initially was working on the truck was stumped after doing numerous things instructed by Ram to resolve. Each time the problem would come back. I started working with a new dealer that recently was built near my house. They too have tried numerous things and then opened a case with engineers. They recently replaced the wheel (again), buttons, harness - and they were convinced the issue was solved. It came back last night.

I have expressed several times my concern that I was approaching the 1 year mark and 36k miles and feared that even if it was fixed prior to 36k, it may return after that mileage and they'd tell me it was now out of warranty.
They assured me that would not happen.

I hate to have to get rid of this truck over this issue...but I am fed up

I didn't mean to start another thread that was a duplicate, thought I had other problems. Time and cycles solved the other stuff so I'll keep going on this thread about the steering wheel stuff, mine is dead as others have described. As I read more here and elsewhere, I think this problem may be larger than I realized at first, might have to raise the visibility to Ram. I'm contacting my local dealer today to see how they would proceed. I'm out of warranty so in my case I can't let them just toss parts and new steering wheels at it, would be way too expensive. I'll share next steps once I know them.

I'm very concerned reading about your issues and others, worried I may not find a fix that lasts. I love my truck but would not keep it if this can't get solved.

So yours worked all along and then failed one day outside of warranty?

Mine have been acting up since new. Here we are with 40k on it and it still is happening. There have been some lengthy delays in between visits while waiting for parts or next steps. They have definitely not worked the majority of my ownership 1 year and 5 months.

My fuel pump failed, had to be towed. When I picked it up the steering wheel controls no longer worked, 62,000 miles. I don't blame the repair shop, can't imagine what they could have done that would be related. I did wonder about the AAA tow guy, he was turning the wheel as he pulled it up his ramp, with it not running had to really hang on the wheel to turn it (obviously), I wondered if that stress could have done something.

Clock spring has been replaced, cruise control switch replaced, no improvement. They identifed the cruise switch because they said all other functions were powered through it. This was a non-dealer shop, now I'm switching to the dealer.

Maybe that did it? Maybe coincidence?

Mine will be working perfectly, and then I go change a song or end a call, etc. and nothing. I've had it just stop mid ride numerous times.

Mine never have come back. The most difficult thing from a day to day driving perspective is no access to dash menus, and my backup alarm is on which is maddening. I looked quickly for it to disconnect it, didn't locate it, will try again.

Once mine go out, they never come back without dealer intervention. Yes, that sucks! Mine has been stuck on some goofy towing screen when I hooked up my trailer. Could not change it. Plus I track oil and fuel filter changes through the cluster. Is it just the backup sensor alarm? Or like an exterior backup alarm?

Exterior backup alarm, beep beep like any commercial truck. IIRC it is enabled in the "commercial settings" screen on the dash.

I have an appointment at the local dealer for early next week, talked to service on the phone and they said they will go through modules etc. obvious stuff before going further. I asked if they have had this situation and he said it's the first one they've heard of. Not a huge dealer, but long time CJDR place with what I've found to be a decent service staff.

Ah, ok that would drive me crazy too. Keep us posted. I will do the same.

I find myself parking in places that I don't have to back out of, or using neutral at times to just roll back if I'm lucky enough to be on an up slope. Crazy to be dealing with this stuff on 70k trucks.

My truck was at my local dealer working on the dead steering wheel problem. They said they put their best troubleshooter on it, and I had cautioned them that I really wanted them to spend the time and not just start trying parts. They called me and said he found all things point to the clock spring. I reminded them that it had already been replaced, they said they were aware but still this was what was indicated, I gave the go-ahead and they replaced it. Wheel controls are back and all functions are working fine now. With all my reading here and elsewhere I'm kind of expecting the problem to come back, only time will tell.

They did say they updated or flashed the controller prior to replacing the clock spring, just to make sure that wasn't going to solve it, and it didn't.

Glad to hear your truck is functional again. Mine is back at the dealer this week. Ram has reached out and is offering some sort of service contract. That is fine and well, but I have zero confidence they will fix the truck, and I am annoyed that I continue having to be inconvenienced by bringing the truck back to be fixed over and over and over again.

@RamCares Are you able to help with this? I have responded to emails and tried calling Ram regarding my case but have had no luck getting a response this week.
