Steering wheel controls stop working

On my 2023 the steering wheel controls stopped working. This has happened about 4-5x. They have applied an update, which got them working for a few weeks. They have replaced the switches on the wheel, which got them working for a few weeks.
They have replaced the entire steering wheel assembly, and they only worked for about 12 hours after that. A few of the visits they determined parts were wrong or had an imperfection, so I had to go back. Each time I went in with non working controls, I left with working controls.

Very annoying. Anyone else have similar issues? Getting tired of having to take my truck in for this.

They have not replaced the clock spring yet. That was my first thought, but they concluded it was initially the controller, and then the switches themselves. I have a call into the service manager to find out what their next step is.
I do not want to be without my truck while they wait on parts, so hopefully they can order the clock spring and when it comes in attempt the repair.

It seems clock spring is the main culprit for many issues with steering wheel controls. I had mine break my steering wheel heater. Replaced the clock spring and its been great since.
If they have not done that yet, that's where I would go next.

Seems like if they replaced the whole steering wheel assembly they would have done the clock spring. But as mentioned that typically is the issue reported in this forum.

Mine is doing the same. However, it is just the screen controls for the instrument cluster and the buttons behind the steering wheel for the audio controls. The Cruise control works just fine.

Just to add. If I disconnect both batteries everything works for a couple of weeks and then goes off again.

So, I have the exact same issue you have with the screen buttons and back radio buttons. So just disconnecting battery seems to work? My truck is a 2024 RAM 2500 Limited with only 526 miles on it. They said they can get it in for at least a week. How long you remove battery cable. Just quick remove and add back or keep it off for a bit?

I had mine checked out last week for similar issues at the dealer I bought the truck from. Felt initially like it would be a wild goose chase as I had disconnected the battery and the problem went away like has been mentioned here. However, the service tech found there was an internal service memo (can’t recall the acronym he used but it wasn’t a recall notice) that talked about this and a loose connector in the steering wheel was the cause. He found the loose connector in my truck and so far (~ 10 days) the left side button issue hasn’t returned.

those little connectors are in a tight spot inside the wheel. I'd think clockspring right off the bat, though.

Got the recall notice for the SCCM.
Hi there, our team would be more than happy to assist while your vehicle is at the dealership should you decide to have your vehicle serviced for recall. Just reach out to us if you need us. Thanks!

So I have the issue with the turn signal clicking back the opposite direction after returning to the "neutral" position. The recall is for the SCCM. Does the SCCM also control the steering wheel buttons that go dead after awhile?

I have the same problem with the steering wheel. The rear controls on the steering wheel stop working, and the light on the left-hand button doesn't come on. I've taken it to the dealership 6 times and they still can't fix it. Does anyone know what the source of the problem is?

What has your dealership already done in the multiple visits so people don’t suggest things that have already been done?

Usually the fix is to replace the clock spring.

They have made numerous updates to the truck. The buttons start working again after a few weeks and then stop working again. The last time they replaced the buttons, but it stopped working again shortly after. I mentioned the clock spring, but they told me that it wouldn't explain the problem.

Thats funny, it totally explains that problem. If they don't want to replace it, then take it somewhere else. Seems like they have done everything but that....

I'm going to take it to the dealership again tomorrow. When I tell them about the clock spring, they tell me it's only related to the air bag and horn.

Yea, that would make me nervous having them work on it if that's what they think. How do they think all of the wiring gets from the lower steering column through the spinning steering wheel?
