Hey guys
Having the time, materials and tools to make some myself, I'll try to document what takes shape...For better or worse..... The headache rack, electric sign actuators and radio console came out OK for a hack like myself, so why not?
I want some kind of step to get into the 2500 diesel crew cab (wife is "5'4 1/2" and I'm getting old), and get some kind of side bed access.
So I'm going to try to document what takes place.
Normally I build my offroad rigs' sliders from the frame. But looking online, everyone just goes to the holes that the factory put in for their steps. So I went that route this time
First step was to get some rivnuts installed. I have a big selection of "normal" rivnuts, so just hit the hex headed holes with a small increment step bit to make the 3/8-16 rivnuts fit nice. Issue is...My gun wont fit. I tried the bolt, nut and washer method, but the rivnut would spin in the hole. So I grabbed some bent 1/8" scrap I had, drilled a 3/8" hole, cut a small piece of rubber, and it works a treat. Dont even need a wrench on the bolt while turning the nut, the plate holds it perfectly. Also easier to get the nut in dead straight vs holding a backing wrench or socket

Yeah, I could have bent another piece at a 90, but it worked. Could have also just held the steel, but the body held it better, thus the rubber to stop it scratching.
More to come
