Removing air dam

After removing the air dam I had to fabricate a bracket that attaches to the bottom of bumper and then bottom screws of the license plate bracket. Otherwise the bracket will wobble at high speed like crazy

I gotta know.. How did you see your front license plate while at high speed?

I am glad we don’t have to run front plates

Front grill camera ;) . Now on the serious note. License plate bracket was loose like hell after I remove the air dam. Bottom of the bracket was attached to air dam. Maybe I'm wrong but will not take any chances this thing falling off and damaging my truck.

I just took the bracket off, found a couple of nuts/bolts and washers in the garage and mounted the plate straight to the bumper using the two holes the bracket originally used.

I removed it last night. My MPG actually went up this morning :p . Also there are two openings right behind the license plate bracket. It looks like it might be for cooling but only if you have diesel. The engine bay from bottom is all covered with plastic trim. So I think the openings are for the intercooler from diesel.
it would take some long term testing to see what mpg was actually doing.

like was stated above just attach your plate directly to the bumper.

I dont know how your plate is mounted but there is no screws in mine to the air dam and it wont ever wobble...

the air dam is not for mpg although it can affect it in severe winds really its main purpose is to prevent a negative pressure zone behind the rad for cooling reasons.....

I'm curious then why Magna made such a big deal about their active air dam on the 1500s, being all about reducing drag and improving fuel economy.

Hmm look again, or it isn’t installed correctly.
They are just push pins in the bottom air damn not screws but they hold nothing really i left em out when i trimmed my danm

You wild this morning. The air dam is 100% for mpg. It directs air around the hangy down parts like all other air dams ever

I will take a photo tonight. But on mine there were two long screws (same as the top ones) threaded directly into the air dam. It didn't look like it was designed that way but like someone just screw them in there

They do but its so minimal there are wind tunnel tests proving the millage increase would be very hard to tell in normal conditions

I'm going based off of memory (which isn't all that great any more), but I don't recall my bracket being screwed into the air dam. I do believe it had some bracing though that pushed up against it, which is why I ditched the bracket and just bolted straight to the bumper.

On trucks without the front plate holder, There are two dimples in the air dam to locate the screws and “anchors” behind the dam. They’re definitely supposed to be there.

Hmm maybe they were screws i thought they were push pins but its been a while and i threw em out lol
