Remote start added to 2020 Tradesman (SOLVED)

for what it’s worth I just programmed a new 5 button remote entirely from Jscan on a 2500 big horn. I gave me a couple of “this failed” type of alerts but let me try again and the third try it said success and it’s working.

Awesome write up everyone, I just did this on my 2020 Tradesman and it worked with Jscan, used the whole 5 digit PIN that Jscan also was able to get where AlfaOBD was not.

What is right sequence for program key? What I should pressing? I need to hold remote start and press and depress unlock button? Or what else? I really can’t understand:-(

I just followed the instructions on Jscan, it asked to push the unlock button at the end of the programing and when I pressed it, it said the fob was already programed. after that the lock unlock and tailgate release button all worked. The remote start button flashed the lights and honked the horn but did not start the truck until I drove it over 35mph.

I wanted to add one thing I noticed about the fobs. I picked up a cheap no name fob from ebay and the pressure needed to press the buttons was so light that after the fob was programed I set off the panic button twice with the fob in my pocket over a 10 min period. I picked an OEM fob and tried the two side by side and the OEM fob took a noticeable amount more pressure to press the buttons. So just beware the cheap ebay fobs. The cost was about double for the OEM but I am not worried about unlocking, dropping the tailgate or starting the truck inadvertently. Just my $0.02 for what it is worth.

I bought cheap eBay fobs, but then just swapped my modified board into the eBay fobs with the correct button prints on the front. Better than dealing with dealers or programming new fobs. Just have to get the key cut to match the original.

I just activated the tailgate and remote start on my 24' 3500 Big Horn. Programmed a new OEM fob with Jscan. The hood latch was already installed, so all I had to buy was the fob, the Kaodtech cable, the tailgate shock, and of course, Jscan. Can't remember the exact total, but less than $180 for everything. Programming the fob worked first try, and so did activating the remote start. Quick trip around the block to go over 30mph, and everything works like factory. Thank you to everyone who contributes to these threads. They're outstanding work!

I’m in the process of doing this. Key fob is supposed to be here Monday and I’ve already activated the remote start. My truck already has the hood latch with the switch and it gives the hood ajar warning on the dash.

Adaptation to radio job frequency settings…

Pull code….
Then fobik programming, it usually gives a 5-6 digit pin. Only use the first 4 digits I beleive…
Got my fob in today and got it programmed. Unlike yours, on mine I had to put the numbers in consecutively with no spaces and use all 5. I already had programmed the remote start days ago and it worked as soon as the fob was done. Pretty easy but nerve racking.
Now have a 22’ Tradesman with remote start. If I have to go to the dealer, I’ll give them my old fob to use.

Just wanted to add that I successfully got remote start working on a 2024 tradesman powerwagon. Purchased the hood latch from rockauto for $50. Purchased the recommended switches for the remote for $15 on amazon. Bought the recommended fobs on ebay for $40. Also bough a connector and pins from mouser. Soldered the 2 switches to my original fobs and swapped the button cover from the ebay fobs to the factory ones and everything looks factory and buttons remote start and tailgate release without any programming. Just had to alfaodb the remote start function.
Something to note is i ran the ground to the normal ground point, but i used a t-tap from the hood latch wire to the purple and blue wire under the fuse box. This worked for me without issue and prevented needing to run a wire inside the truck and buy another set of pins for that.
For just over $115 I'm super happy with the result.
Thanks for all the input, was easy after reading through this thread!

I have 24 ram 3500 Koadtech bypass, Obd MX + and Jscan. I pulled the pin, and got that to work, but each time I try and program the fob it says times out. I am following the instructions on screen pressing and releasing the unlock button every other second. What am I missing?

Trying pressing it every second ? I was so nervous doing mine, I really don’t remember what steps I had to go through.

Dealer just tried to program the FOB and it wouldn’t work either. I was told that that fob is not for the truck, and it wouldn’t work… WTFO?? Lol

Can you post a pic of the fob, and where did you get it from

That remote is for a 5th gen 1500 (led light at top). Not compatible with HD rams.
Ok! Well that makes more sense. The dealer has stated that the fob cannot be returned, and I paid a $100 program fee, and it couldn’t be programmed. They may not like me when I return and let them know I was given the wrong parts to begin with.

So, interesting finding.

Just purchased a brand new 2024 this evening. Used one of the spare, brand new fobs I purchased for my 2023, when activating remote start, pulling pin and programming new fobs.

It absolutely positively won't program, I also tried an OEM non-remote start fob from my 2023 that I still have. Wouldn't program, either.

Pulls the pin, no problems.
