Regens at alarming rate!

I was having regens everyday or every 2 days. I read on a post that A dirty MAP sensor can cause frequent regens... I cleaned the one MAP sensor next to throttle vale and it was literally clogged with a ton of black thick soot. Looks like new now and time will tell if regens stop. will update....

Did you clean the MAF sensor also? The MAF reads the air flow and reports back to the ECM to control fuel rate. They (the sensors) are all connected to each other and the ECM.

I’ve been running a AA filter for about 7k miles with no regen issues. I wonder if I switch to the gold standard AB filter if I will start plugging up the DPF. I think engineering is grasping at straws.

Being yours is a 19’ you may never have an issue with the filter. Then again if you change back to the ab filter, the MAF may have to relearn the air flow characteristics of the different filter. Idk

My 19 came with a AB. There was that brief period of time when the AA was a acceptable filter and the AB was hard to come by. When time was up on the factory installed AB that’s when I installed the AA. It’s still installed and never had a issue. It’s been my theory all along it’s a software issue, not a hardware issue. Why mainly the 22’s when mostly everything else is identical? We shall see.

I agree with you on that. And mostly the mid to late 22’s. I ran an AA filter in my 2018 with zero issues and some with early 22 models aren’t having any issues. I found a Z87 recall for defective ECM’s that came out on 8/25/2022 but I can’t find which manufacturing dates are involved. I didn’t buy my truck until May of 2023 but it was built in June of 2022.

I’ve been into the dealer multiple times for this issue. Typical outcome is they say it is working normally… finally the CEL on made them take it seriously… I’m on my second visit since the CEL and did have to escalate a second time to the service manager. Second visit back post CEL and they tell me it’s working as designed again. This has been painful and RamCares has been utterly useless.

My dealer finally following similar steps (under Star guidance) posted a few posts back. They have a replacement MAF sensor expected tomorrow.

Fingers crossed for you.

Once you get it back, let us know if it says Germany or China on the new MAF. Rumor the China ones are good and Germany not. Not sure anyone has posted a photo of the China made one yet, here or bookface.

Nevemind, I see @mbarber84 posted a photo of the China one in this thread https://hdrams.com/forum/index.php?threads/regeneration-frequency-issue-maf-poll.15736/

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress. I hope they use the upgraded one.

I've had this problem since the end of June. It's been in the dealer 7 times. I've been through the whole dealer game, correct air filter, stuck EGR, DPF sensor, now MAF. I'm dropping it off today since they finally got a new MAF from Canada. It took 6 weeks to get here. The problem started at 18k miles and now I have 34k. I asked if I have this problem again will it be covered under warranty, since it's a documented / ongoing problem that they can't solve. The guy told me no, it will be all on me. I read on previous posts that the DPF system is covered up to 50k miles, so at least there's some hope.
I was looking into just getting a delete kit, but the 22 ECM's apparently can't be reprogrammed. Truthfully, I'm not all that keen on that mod anyway. I do wonder if the Banks Monster Ram Power Pack system will correct this problem since it's measuring incoming airflow, pressure density and exhaust backpressure. Has anyone done the intake and exhaust mod and has it helped with the regen issue? I know emissions requirements are hurting all the truck manufactures, but how can they say only drive the truck under load and for long distances,. Which is what the dealer in Coo's Bay told me the 3rd time the check engine light came on while on vacation. Oh, they also got me for 89 dollars for a air filter since they said it was not the correct part number, even though I just replaced it two weeks before with a filter that I got from the local dealer.

It will fall under the 50k emission warranty or 5yr/100k mile engine warranty if it’s hard parts. 22 ecm have been cracked FYI.

There was never a period when the AA filter was acceptable for the 2019+ diesels. That was an error within the Mopar parts network that Ram subsequently fixed by adding a notation to their system, as well as mailing out notices to service centers. The unfortunate thing was, many dealers didn’t really take note of the correction in the same manner that some dealers didn’t act on the K1 snap ring failure TSB’s and RSU’s when they were directed to.

I hope you’ve been changing your engine oil more frequently. 16,000 miles of frequent regeneration can have a devastating effect on the engine oil. Fuel dilution usually goes way up.

If they charged you $89 I hope you at least got the correct air filter.

Or the upgraded locking 44” dipstick and tube or the Y43 recall or……

Well the 44” locking dipstick is being handled under a very poorly communicated Customer Satisfaction campaign. But you can get the 15” one replaced with the 44” one under that CSN. IMG_4631.jpeg

Actually that is how I know when to change my oil. Hours, miles or number of regens.
At least you’re aware of this. I shudder to think how many people are out there blissfully ignorant to the fact that their truck is regenerating every 100 miles for 15,000 miles. The ones use Rotella oil, and who blindly follow the oil life monitor and pay no mind to the DPF gauge. I’m sure that’s doing a real number on their rotating assemblies and valve train.

I also changed to the Mobil Synergy Diesel Efficient Fuel on the 28th of November and it really seems to be working. It’s rated as Premium Diesel and is supposed to be additized at the terminal before it gets loaded into the tanker truck. Currently it’s 10 cents more per gallon but the last time I bought it it was 3 cents more. I have 5 hours since my last regen of mixed (mostly city) driving and gauge is still on zero but I know it’s early yet. Quantity of regens is a major factor in oil change frequency.
I also have an appointment at another dealer scheduled by Chrysler Customer Care for the long locking dipstick and tube. Went to my selling dealer today and was told “we have the parts on shelf but your truck has already had the ZA3 recall performed and closed. Sorry. “.

Fuel is a major factor in these systems. I never would have believed that until I experienced it first hand. I’m currently at 870 miles and 22 engine hours since the last regen cycle finished. On track for the second 24 hour regeneration in a row which is a major improvement over where I was prior.
