Looking for recommendations for adding hardwired USB C PD (45 watts or higher) outlets? Due to time, and factory power limitations, the factory USB outlets won't cut it.

II need to add 2 in the rear of the truck and 2 more to the front. I've looked into a power inverter, but really don't want to go that route as it is unsightly and not really the approach I want to go. I will be adding a power inverter, but that is being reserved for a higher draw device.

The USB C PD ports will need to work for iPad and smaller laptops at minimum.

I'm currently looking at amazon, but everything they have is either a plug in socket for a cigarette lighter, or a drill a 1" hole and have this monstrosity that has it's own volt meter. The drop in plug I can use on the upper dash to power 1 device, so that takes care of one.

Still need a solution for the remaining front plug. This will be mounted low on the center stack (truck has a jump seat and open cubby)

The rear plugs, I need one for each rear passenger - 2 max.

Has anyone found a clean looking solution?

If you want clean you could get the factory plugs for the jump seat then wire them however you choose. I’ve actually seen the setup with just the USB, no heated seats buttons or 120 plug.

I'd be curious to what that looks like behind the panel. If I could get that panel with USB and 115v, that would be great. As long as there is a female USB c to plug into, that would be absolutely perfect.

Got to see if I can find a truck online with that spec and get the Vin. Thanks for the suggest!

I got the part numbers for a quote some time ago, reached out to a vendor/sponsor on the forum named Benny. I’ll see if I can find the info.

Well, got something going (maybe) for an interim solution for rear power.

Found a 400 watt inverter while cleaning out my shop yesterday.

Going to mount under drivers seat for now. This will give me time to source proper parts and 110v factory plugs fir the truck. Then wire them in there.

My 21 ram has 2 rear USB a and two USB c just above the 120 outlet. Is this what your talking about?

You would have to add it with a source 120V brick since USB-C PD 1.0 tops out at 36W at 12V. Are you running anything besides the iPad that needs more than 36W?

I’ve had this one from Amazon on my list to install in my RV (if i ever get it back). It does require a 1” hole, but it’s 65W (PD3.0) and doesn’t have a pointless voltage meter. There is a blue light on it, but it can be turned off.

I noted this post a while back, it may help:
Ordered 2 usb charge ports from Amazon, came with the wiring pigtails. Pulled the door panel off and essentially probed the window switch plug with the wires until the usb port lit up. The black wire appears to be ground and one of the other heavier wires in the harness (I believe it was diagonally across from the black wire on the plug) was positive. Just tapped into those 2 wires, drilled the hole for the port and popped everything back into place. Overall, was pretty simple to complete, and a quick 15 minute trip tool my kids ipad from dead to 13%. Using the ports I'll link below. Plus, by using the window lock button, I can turn the ports off from the drivers door. Otherwise, they are key on power only. They only have power with the key on and the window locks disabled. Hitting the window lock cuts power.

I saw some buck boards that also claim 100W out of 12V DC so I have to wonder how reliable these things are that are stepping up the voltage to get those kinds of output numbers.

Yeah, I’m similarly curious, but there’s really not much out there in the way of alternatives. If I ever get around to getting some I’ll disassemble one and see what the internal quality looks like.

I think I'll order one of these and do a bench test for the fun of it.

As for devices to power, I just like the fast charge capability. All of my devices are 45w or more charging.
One laptop I have and use occasionally is a 65w input.
