Really mild AC.

I've read several posts about the lack of really cold AC in these new 2022 HDs. The posts seemed to be just info posts and no real solution as to a fix, if this is just the way it is, or is there indeed a problem with the AC?

We're getting a heat wave up here in Washington into the 90s and yesterday I cranked my AC on with the fan full speed. Needless to say, I was disappointed in the lack of cold air - there IS none! Sure, it was kinda cool, but nothing like the blasting cold AC in my old Dakota, or other cars I've had.

So do I take this rig in under warranty and tell the the dealership that I want my AC to blow out COLD air, so fix it. Or is the dealer going to just say, "That's the way it's designed and you're just crap outa luck!"

I don't see how this piddly AC would ever handle the constant heat down in the southwest.

I’d say record some temps coming out the vents before you bring it in. If it’s blowing out 50-60° air there’s a problem and the dealer can’t say it’s normal.

That depends on the outside temperature and humidity. 40 to 50 degrees with a 100 degree outside temperature is probably close to normal.

We had a good heat wave last week and my 19 worked well it was 95 and slightly humid so yours should be doing a good job too

Let me help, I live in southwest Florida. The AC system is definitely not going to chill your drinks but keep in mind that like a lot of things in life, it is subjective. You are not accustomed to hot weather, therefore anything other than liquid nitrogen is probably going to disappoint you while you are suffering through it. On really hot days any AC system has to work to its full capacity to remove heat energy from the air. Physics, can’t avoid it. First Law of Thermodynamics.

You could have an issue with your system. But if it is “I want a better system, design it” then don’t expect much from any dealer other than “Let’s walk over and talk to the sales department about a new truck”.

In the absence of a problem, use the Max Cool setting and/or set the system to use the dashboard vents exclusively. When you feel the cold air hitting your face at full blast, it just feels colder.

I think the AC system could be improved but I don’t have any complaints about it. And I drove through Needles California last Saturday at 114 degrees. I also have a megacab… more cubic feet of space to cool.

Don't forget the butt fan on high if you have that option. I thought it was kinda weird at first but now love it with the exception it doesn't seem to maintain the same setting through truck restarts. I like pushing buttons though so its not too big a deal

It does help. I wish the seats were available with an active cooling system but in the absence of that I will definitely take the fans. I also appreciate that on hot days the truck will turn that on automatically with remote start.

But he already has a new truck.

Seems Ram has had problems with A/C performance for the past few years to the point they remove dashes and repair/replace air boxes under warranty at times to fix it. Have they not made any improvements in the past 2-3 years?

I only piped up because I've been a bit disappointed in my '22 A/C as well, and I haven't even been out in any real heat yet. First day I saw 70+ with full sun, the truck sat with the engine shut off to preserve precious fuel while I hitched up a trailer. When I got back in, I cranked the air and it took several miles to cool off. My past several trucks would have had me cool in a minute in those conditions. It wasn't hot out, the sun was shining bright, that's all.

All the thermodynamic jargon aside, when we've all had vehicles with cold air, then you give a small fortune for a new truck that doesn't cool very well, it's no surprise that guys are complaining. We all expect improvements when we trade up, not going backwards. Maybe they should focus on A/C and Uconnect improvements as much as they focus on horsepower improvements?

I haven't thrown the flag yet but I'm not optimistic about the first day I'm out in 90-100 degree heat. When that day comes, if I'm still disappointed, I'll be going to see the dealer. And they do not need to take me to see a salesman.

I live in Southern Az, and its been over 100 every day. The AC work s well IMO - it does take about 5 minutes before it is able to get the temp inside the truck down but after that it is comfortable - I keep it set to 68. I would say that if you are just going for short drives it may not feel like its cooling possibly. I usually run the fan at 6 until it cools off then drop it to 4.

The inside temp is probably 120 or better after sitting in the Sun all day. I have window tint and a window shade when its parked.

Like I said, it’s very subjective. I live in one of the hottest parts of the country and the humidity is an added burden for AC systems. I have a 2020 3500 mega cab and am totally fine with the AC performance. I would like better towing mirrors, rear proximity sensors that don’t get triggered by my receiver hitch, a telescoping steering wheel... But the AC system is not on my improvement list. It is subjective.

I'm in parker az every other weekend and my 2022 doesn't seem to blow as cold or hard as my 2013 did, both mega cabs.

Here is 32 pages of complaints, just one thread.

Lol! Thank you. I've read through several pages. It's a lot of reading.

I've also made it through about half the pages of the Uconnect5 thread too!

I appreciate your thoughts. However, while I may be living in the NW now, I definitely know about hot weather, and REAL AC, from years living in Alabama, Louisiana, traveling across the SW multiple times, and visiting with friends all across the south.

As I mentioned in my first post, every one of my other cars/trucks' AC blew this new Ram's AC outa the park. I'll look into the Max Cool setting you mentioned. If no luck there, then I'll try to figure out how to measure the temp coming out of the dash vents and then take it in to the dealer with a previous TSB describing my problem and see what the techs have to say.

This will be your best solution.

I wanted to complain about my A/C too. Black truck, black interior, it's parked outside in direct sunlight all day. We've had 3 weeks of near 100 degree temps with humidity north of 80%.
The fact of the matter is, the A/C has to work to cool the cab as well as cool the interior that is radiating extremely high temps for probably the first half hour you're driving it.
Next time you get in your truck and turn on the air, reach up and place your hand on the dash, it will still be radiating tons of heat.

I found turning the fan to high and setting recirculate on helps bring the temps down a little faster.
