Powerwagon with Cummins

I understand the need for satisfying a wider variety of consumer needs. What bothers me is that they are using the "prestige" (if you will) behind the Power Wagon name to sell something that's not a Power Wagon. It's a great idea, a good group of options they probably should've just added to the build sheets of Rebels to begin with, but lumping it all in with the Power Wagon is nothing but a money grab and makes the Power Wagon just look like another 'parts bin' package. There is history behind our trucks that I think is ignored by selling the name like that. This is similar to the vertical bar grill, it sold so well on the 75th's as a defining feature that they carried it forward to sell future trucks, so now the 75th Anniversary addition is only defined by a couple badges on the cab and some nice front seat coverings. Still not a deal breaker haha just annoying, mostly because I have one :p

lol I got rid of the 75th badges on mine

Seems like some of you forget that Ram considers the Rebel a Power Wagon too. So it’s hardly a fake PW.

Ford considers the jellybean EV a "Mustang". Does that make it a "real" Mustang?

I didn't forget, I just think that was a mistake. It dilutes the name, and it makes shopping online harder when Rebels clog up the PW search results. Rebel should have continued to be it's own trim level like in the 1/2 tons.

(edit for clarity: I think the naming convention was a mistake, I think offering the product diversity is a smart play)

RAM could use the opportunity to add a PTO driven hydraulic pump to the power wagon transmission.

Then offer a hydraulic winch on the front and back, plus the tow ball hitch.

12 volt standard alternator and 24 volt aux alternator.

That would put it into almost a COTS setup.

The people calling the new diesel PW not true to name are forgetting that the original PW was a heavy work truck. This thing is closer the the spirit of the name than what we’ve had for the last few years.

i would consider one if I were going to do a overland build with light weight camper like a dirt box or alucab. I would have to add a front winch bumper and upgrade the suspension and add all the Dethloff skid plates so that could be an easy 15K without the camper.

Not forgetting its a work truck, because it certainly is still a work truck. Work truck isn't synonymous with big diesel either. Realistically, if any person was going to argue to the spirit of the Power Wagon, they would need to start with regular cab long box, then want a straight six gas motor paired to a manual transmission pushing power through 5.83 (yes 83) gears and hopefully a Willock swivel haha.

Very half baked, everyone here seems to be unanimous and that is unusual. I feel like the Power Wagon despite being a Halo vehicle sees very little love. I wish that would change. There is a rumor Ford is working on something closer to the Power Wagon, so is Ram just going to get passed by again? The Diesel PW is not a PW that we can all agree on. How about we see some, better rock sliders, bigger tires, power boost, better exhaust lay out, improved pay load, maybe more unique off road bumpers, wireless winch control, and maybe something else unique.

Should make a 1/2 ton PW, keep it as simple/base as possible. Minimum plush, absent most gizmos, screens and electronics, low gears and 33s…lockers, skids, lift, winch…

For some reason, my mind keeps going back to the idea of a 4 cylinder version of the modern 6.7 for this application. Just keep everything else the same and slice 2 cylinders off the back of it.

That would lighten the front axle load, free up space for a winch, and just change the ratio for the bigger tires.

Make the interior "hose out the mud through a drain " in nature.

Engine power would of course drop by 30% or so.

I have a freind that was seriously thinking of ordering a Power Waygon with the Cummins until he sat down with dealer. No winch, no factory lift, stiffer suspension to carry the added load .
He also was told that while offloading the DEF will most likely have glogging of the filter as he will be slow moving thru trails.
I must ask why would you want a Cummins PW ? Most pepole won't be towing 20K into the tundra to go playing on the trails. Makes no sense. Just my thoughts. Maby I'm missing somthing.

I wouldn't. Which is why I bought a regular Cummins truck and a Wrangler Rubicon. All bases covered.
