"Poverty" level kits

Yes, the weight on the Trashforce makes it shorter and unmounted the Kenda could be taller than mounted too.

If you rub on the swaybar you could always get a Thuren anti-sway bar, more clearance and a much nicer ride too.

A 1” spacer seems like the right height.

How many miles on the Transforce tires?

I just went through this whole thing over a few months. I do tow a 5er. I do have bags on my ‘21 CCSB Big Horn gasser night edition with factory 20’s to help level when hitched(people already don’t like the LED headlights when hitched after dark but too bad). I went 31k on the 285/60/20 Transforce tires with minimal complaints. They weren’t great tires but I suppose there may be worse out there. I didn’t want to level. I didn’t want to lift because the 5er is almost heading nose high as it is with the best hitch ever(laugh please) in the lowest setting. I need a tire great on pavement, good in snow, handles my crappy stone driveway with an incline and didn’t break the bank. I went with 275/65/20 Milestar Pategonia X/T. They supposedly measure 34.4”. Is that mounted or not? I don’t know how they figure that. What I can tell you is they are substantially larger than my worn out Transforce tires. I have zero rub, including lock to lock. It still fits in the local wash(it was close to max height prior to new tires) and the tires seem great so far. I only have a few hundred miles and no snow time yet but they have to be better than stock in that dept. Yes, I went narrower but taller, picked up a few hundred pounds of load rating if it matters and have a tire that actually has some tread. I’m not trying to sell you on anything. Trucks can differ. You have 18’s I have 20’s. I feel the 1” spacer will level you just fine but you may be looking into the Thuren front end parts to alleviate any rub that comes from going wider. I’m not fascinated by wider. I’m fascinated by efficiency lol. Best of luck. Rant over. Just figured I’d share in the madness.

So what does that do for Eric? I think he should send it if they are the tires he wants. Is the pimply Walmart kid taking the truck out for figure 8’s after install? I doubt it and don’t let them do the alignment. Take it to a reputable shop and have it aligned to Thuren specs. Done.

Ok so spent some time this evening doing some measuring. Here's what I got:

Stock Trashforce AT2 275/70r18-
-full height (measured from tread surface to tread surface center diameter), 33 3/4"
-tread width (measured from block edge to block edge), 10"

New Kenda Klever R/T 285/75r18-
-full height, 34 7/8"
-tread width, 10 5/8"

Looking at those measurements, the new tires really aren't that much larger than the Trashforce-- just over an inch taller and only 5/8" wider tread surface. However, heres where I might run into an issue....

With the Trashforce tires, at full lock left or right, I measure right at 1" clearance from tread block corner to the sway bar, and very close to 2" at the control arm. Based on this, the control arm clearance looks to be sufficient for the new tires but likely not enough to clear the sway bar. On paper, it looks like I'm gonna get a bit of rub at full lock. I hate that.

As for the tire-to-fender measurements, on a flat blacktop surface and bone-empty other than about 2/3 tank of fuel (50 gal tank), truck measures as follows:

-Rear (measured from tread surface to fender edge at axle center), 10 1/4"
-Front, 8 1/2"

According to these measurements, a 1" spacer should raise the front to 9 1/2", leaving a 3/4" forward rake (acceptable!) but only 3/4" for rear spring compression to level under load (not ideal if 1.5" is desired). The advice to use a 1" spring spacer looks to be the best advice.

I plan to order the Traxda 1" spacer kit, which does not include shock brackets. I assume this is because a 1" spacer is still within the factory shock's specs? Or should I consider (and pony up for) a kit that includes longer shocks?
For some reason my attach photos is broken but I run a 1” traxada and have tons of pics of the truck unloaded and loaded with a trailer

Exactly.

This morning I had an appt at the WallyWorld to have the new Kenda Klever R/T 285/75r18 tires installed. As soon as they rolled em out of the stock room, I was like "HOLY CRAP those are big." I rolled one out to the truck and set it up against the stock 275/70r18 Trashforce AT2's, and the new ones are a solid 2" taller (maybe slightly more, but I realize mounted vs unmounted makes a diff). Snot-nosed pimply-faced WallyWorld kid says, "Thats gonna rub, and if it rubs anywhere, we can't let it leave the shop like that. Sorry, WallyPolicy." Also he tells me that once the tire is mounted, its a huge hassle to get em returned if for some reason they won't work. So I'll told them nevermind, let me get the front lift installed first and I'll come back. But seriously, these tires look absolutely huge. I agreed with the pimply-faced kid when he said they'd rub, cuz hard to believe standing there lookin at em that they ain't gonna. BIG tires. So now I'm focused on trying to figure out just how much front lift its gonna take to: A, achieve the right look (very slight forward rake, or even dead-level) and B, make sure those mammoth tires are gonna fit without clearance issues. If we do end up with a 5th wheel soon, which we fully intend to do, and I get a little sag in the ass end, I'll just deal with it or I'll install airbags to help. Cross that bridge when we get there.

Suppose its a completely LEVEL look I'm after, what then? Traxda offers a 1", 1.5", and a 2" spacer kit. I only wanna do this once. I'm looking at alot of pictures on this forum posted by lots of people who have installed varying lift heights, usually 1 to 3 inches and everything in between (2 and 2.5" seem the most popular) and with most of them, its hard to even notice a diff. For example, one dude will post a pic with his 1.5" lift on 35's, and the next guy posts a pic of his 2.5" on 35's and I'll be damned if I can tell by the pics which is which.

Yes, for the most part the right pull has been dealt with, and interestingly, the more I drive the truck, the less its been a problem. Maybe the tires wearing in a little? I dunno but its barely noticeable now and the steering wheel is only off by a smidge. But dude, seriously, thanks for remembering that. Thats impressive. ;)

Sounds like the kid knows what he is doing and was very honest / realistic.

What are the wheel specs? Maybe I overlooked them but it matters.

I ran 285/75-18 for a while without any lift at all on aftermarket wheels

How many miles on the Transforce tires?

I went with 275/65/20 Milestar Pategonia
About 1700 miles on the Transforce.

I looked at the Patagonias, and they were definately a consideration. But for less $$$ per tire, I decided on the Kendas mostly because of solid reviews, the 3-ply sidewall, and the look. Very cool looking tire, and we all know how important looking cool is.

Is your truck a 2500 or 3500?

Maybe, or maybe he just didnt wanna mount one to see if it fit. I dunno, doesnt matter. I just know that I'm too OCD to have any rubbing, and Im afraid its gonna cost me more moolah.... and it ain't easy getting all this past the wife trying to convince her its needed. Im running out of reasons and excuses.

Their is no rubbing on 285/75/18s I have a couple friends running the same size on stock wheels with no rubbing from lock to lock… ill be ordering my 285/75/18 tires next week likely

Good to hear. Im gonna order the 1" Traxda spring spacer this eve and my bro-in-law and I are gonna install em hopefully next weekend, then get the new tires mounted up.

Again, the 1" Traxda kit does not include shock brackets. I assume this is because the stock shocks are long enough to not need brackets. Any reason this should be a concern and should I consider longer shocks?

As a matter of fact, yes, they WILL do figure 8's after install. Its what Walmart does. They mount the tires, balance, put the wheels back on, run a cpl figure 8s in the parking lot, then torque the lugs. Ive had at least 10 sets of tires put on various vehicles at Walmart and its what they've always done. They don't do alignments, at least not at any of my local-ish locations. It'll go to an alignment shop for that. Is "Thuren specs" something these shops should know about?

No need to extend shocks

I would just bring the wheels and tires in a different truck for them to mount and balance then id install them at home if you are worried about rubbing. They cant really say anything about it that way.

Yup, I already planned to do it that way if I get any grief. Or, I'll just slip the pimply-faced kid a $20 to look the other way.

Do you happen to know if they run those tires with chains ?
