On the fence on oil change and other questions

I usually use amsoil for all my other vehicles I have the PC discount. Just couldn’t justify the signature series with the short mileage and yearly oil change. Did a lot of homework and settled on the premium blue as my fill of choice. 5w40 cause it’s NJ;)

I didn’t even know Amsoil offered testing, you learn something new everyday. I’ll look into Polaris as I represent 375 Cummins techs including the parts guys. I may go with speeddiagnostix because I’m only going to be doing it once a year so the economics aren’t that bad.
Yeah Amsoil uses Polaris. They’ve had kits available for a long long time. Just makes it easier to buy when you’re getting the rest of your maintenance supplies. Nothing wrong with Speed either in terms of the actual analysis. Just very expensive

Polaris Advanced Oil analysis: $33
Speediagnostix: $105

They do go a little more in-depth but not 3x as much.

Nothing wrong with VPB 5w-40
That’s the factory fill oil on these trucks
It would be my choice if I wanted a less expensive retail option.

At one time I looked at the cost for VPB, I found Amsoil is $6.00 per gallon cheaper, cost for VPB $34.99 Amazon, cost of Amsoil oil ADO f$28.99 for me its a no brainer, Amsoil...

And I am over here getting VPB from NAPA at 24.99 a gallon wishing I could do better...

Yeah that’s a great deal. I’ve never tried that variety, always used their signature series but I wouldn’t hesitate to try it. I use their “OE” oil in my wife’s 5.7 hemi half ton and it does extremely well. Easily achieves 8-9k miles on changes and still has life left. And she’s hard on that thing. Tons of idle time and short trips.

NAPA has VPB for $23.00 a gallon. For once a year and 8500 miles there isn't any use for Amsoil in this application. Now for my sons Altimas that are in stop and go traffic and the wifes Volvo in the same Amsoil is all they get.

You would not be totally disagreeing with me if your engine oil had 4.5% or higher Fuel Dilution like mine, fyi standard diesel oil like RotellaT-6 does not hold up well with Fuel Dilution over 4% an why I use Amsoil being so far its the only one to hold up for longer then 6K...

That’s a subjective statement.
Might not be what you think is worthwhile in your application, but to each their own.
In that you are correct. To each their own. For me unless I was trying to push an extended interval or towing right at the upward limit of the truck or running a crazy tune on it I don't see it for signature series. Now the OE I might try next year just to see the difference with testing but tbh I dont think there will be that much of a difference between the VPB and Amsoil OE to justify the difference of a few dollars in price. I came from a world where the oil that went into our units came out of a bulk tank that was whatever 15w40 was cheapest to be delivered 500 gallons at a time and went into cummins, Volvo Penta's, and Deere engines. They all ran the same and all broke the same.

If you are having fuel dilution problems, you have more issues than which brand of motor oil to use.
Why yes I do, but its the only oil so far that will hold up to the contamination, btw Ram claims is not that bad, so I need to use and oil that hold up until Ram decides or finds a cure for the problem

FYI Amsoil does not make a 5w or 10w OE diesel oil, that is unless I missed it somewhere..
The ADN, ADO, and ADP are their “HD” series diesel engine oils. All are formulated for OEM drain intervals. This would be equivalent in purpose to their “OE” line for gasoline engine oils.

As it’s been said, fuel dilution affects some oils a lot more than others. It’s not a concern in some trucks, but the regen issues present in some of these units makes it a consideration.

It’s a major reason why I refuse to run rotella in my 2022, or my 2024 work rig.
