First oil change at 1500 miles. Secound oil change at 10k miles. At 18500 miles I was one gallon low!!!! Anyone else have an oil use problem!!??

Id imagine If you didn’t notice oil on the ground it was never full to begin with.

6.7 diesel. I've checked the oil a few times in the last 8500 miles. All full. No oil on the ground. No signs of a leak anywhere.

Just curious, but why two oil changes that early on a CTD when you can do 15k before a change? Heavy towing or heavy use?
Like I said, just asking is all.

I always change the oil the first time at 1k. Then I change again at the prescribed interval to get on a schedule. The reason for the first oil change is engine break in. IF there are any minute practicals that come loose in the first 1k, I don't want them in there for 10k!
I'm going to keep a close eye on it. If it continues to use oil, it's going back to the dealer.

How many miles since you last checked it? Was it full then? You added one gallon to bring it to the full mark, or measured the drained oil quantity?
There have been others that have measured the drained oil and said it was vastly short, so just asking to verify your conditions.

Probably over 2k miles since I last checked it. It was not showing on the dipstick so I added 1qt at a time until it registered full.

A little background on me:
Truck driver/ owner opperator for 40 years, occasionally mechanic on diesels for tha same time frame. My father was also a truck driver/ mechanic for 50 years.

Hi rangerdanger,

If you end up having to address this with your dealer, please know that we are available via private message and more than happy to support you through that process.

New CTD's come factory fill with full syn I've been told, iust wondering why you would use semi-syn?

My wife is a chemist for Shell Oil. There is FAR to much concern about full vs semi synthetic oil!

You telling me that cold flow and shear point and that bearing wear test are comparable?

I'm saying that regular dino oil worked great for years ( and still does!!). The Real world difference between full and semi is virtually negligible ( in the real world!!).

I agree, Shell Rotela T5 semi synthetic blend. I have PERSONALLY seen diesel engines go over 1 million miles on dino oil. Its all about changing just before its needed and good filters.

Mine too but a use a quart not a gallon lol ! 2500km oil check top mark then 3500 km later missing a quart . Truck is at dealer in waiting of a def level sensor that is back order so dealer would check for any leaks first and investigate further then!

What is the price difference between semi and full synthetic?
