Hey guys went to the dealer for my 1st oilchange on a 2024 ram 2500 diesel and out the door had to pay $900.

Wondering what is everyone else doing for oilchanges? At home and what brand oil? And filters? Been looking at docs diesel is that good oil and filters or stay away?

Any input is great.

Geno's Garage for filters, Shell Rotella T6 5w40 from Walmart, Oil Filter cap off tool for genos, Drain pan, some basic tools, and 30 minutes of your time. I sincerely hope they did more than just oil filters for $900.

What! That’s absurd, you were robbed.

What were the line item charges.

Docs isn’t worth it, the filters aren’t as good.

Get OEM filters from Geno’s Garage and pick your flavor oil. I like Amsoil 5w-40 and a Donaldson DBL7349.

Do it at home and keep records and receipts.

Don’t forget to let it drain at least 30 minutes.

$900, WOW. Would you be willing to share an itemized list of what made that up. My out-of-pocket for changing my oil and oil and fuel filters is about $200 and about an hour (I may be old but at least I’m slow.). Making (saving) $700/hr is a LOT better than I ever got paid for consulting as an engineer.

Did they give you an itemized list of all that they did for $900? If just a basic oil change, that seems like robbery. The dealership I bought my truck from includes 2 free oil changes during the first year. Just did the first one, and that was the expected $0.00.

When I was making the appointment, they did show pricing for the full premium synthetic oil filter, tire rotation, etc. for $179.95.

Fleetguard LF16035 from geno’s and 3 gallons (8.95/gal) of delo xsp 5w40 I got from aap clearance a few months ago = 44 dollar oil change. I can’t believe a dealer would charge that much for an oil change.

So itemized list is multi point inspection $0 oil change labor Oil and filter $344
Fuel filter and water separator $576.60
Some disposal charges but also like a $26.75 discount.

I was there for about 40 minutes.

It's also a conventional oil for ram diesel in warm climate. Seems like I was robbed.

Thanks for the input going to order everything now and be ready for next one.
I have all the tools I just figured first oil change best to do with dealer and have it noted that it was done. But every 6k miles that's insane.

OMG even over priced Portland Or dealers sell Rotella T6 oil changes for under $225, you got hosed badly unless they also changed out, air filter, both fuel filters along with tire rotation

$576 for the fuel filters is even worse. How did that line item out?

Yeah, I wouldn’t be going back there. With my previous truck (Nissan Titan XD Cummins) I thought the $300 charge for fuel filters was ridiculous, so I bought my own filters and changed myself. It was quite easy.

Given that you were in and out in under an hour, I can’t see how they can justify that charge.

Ya not planing on ever going back to dealer. getting filters from genos. And rotella t6.

I just recently paid $548.00 for oil and filter, both fuel filters, and air filter. I thought that was a lot but $900!? Wow.

Attached what I'm going to be buying. Buying the oil in bulk cuz why not will have left over for next oil change.

$28 a gallon isn’t worth the extra 2 gallons sitting in such a large pale. You can buy 3 gallons at a time from Amazon for $23.

The quick filter service kits are easy to order, but the Mopar oil filter is just average. Several better options available from Fleetguard and Donaldson. I’ve asked Geno’s if they would start carrying the Donaldson DBL7349 and they are looking into it.
