Oil changes

The "incorrect" filter is used in all year Hemi and pre-19 CTD trucks. Yes, we're discussing CTD in a diesel sub forum, just clarifying a data point.

I thought it was Hemi’s too, but my 2017 hemi uses a different shape filter. Maybe it’s 19+ Hemi’s.

I'm also using the "correct" 2019+ filter in my 2014 ctd truck. If it's lower restriction for a 2019+, logic follows it's the better choice for every application.

Do oil and fuel changes yourself.

Fuel filter kits are cheaper online. Dealers like my local one's charge 230-250 for the filters, online you can grab oem for under a hundred. Amsoil max life oil change kits are just over 150$.

If you dont know how to do either, there are youtube videos for it. Grab a 28mm socket for the fuel filter caps while your at it. Just beware, the fuel filter change can get messy lol. youll figure out ways to make it less messy after a few changes.

Make one of these and it makes changing the one under the bed painless.

haha i was thinking of that the other day! i found a cheap drain pan that i slide up in there. catch the fuel and drilled a hole in the corner and it runs down into another catch can. but i like the one you posted better cause even when you drain it, once you drop the cap theres a ton more fuel in there.

It’s a good idea to drain it first so any remaining pressure is released and makes unscrewing it easier. The contraption I made will hold all of the fuel in the filter but still need a rag layed on the driveshaft to catch the drips.

Hey guys went to the dealer for my 1st oilchange on a 2024 ram 2500 diesel and out the door had to pay $900.

Wondering what is everyone else doing for oilchanges? At home and what brand oil? And filters? Been looking at docs diesel is that good oil and filters or stay away?

Any input is great.
yeah, in my neck of the woods it was $700 for fuel filters, inspection, cabin filter, air filter, and oil change. at the 25,000mi inspection whatever the book said that was the only time I did that I use OEM oil filters and Valvoline oil because it's endorsed by Cummins i also change my oil every 5,000mi unlike the suggested 15,000mi but I also do a lot of heavy towing and I'm worried about not having flat tappets

Be sure to use a 28mm 6 point socket so you don’t round off the plastic nut on the fuel filter caps.
