I feel the small amount of rust you see on cast-iron is where water sits and most if not ALL underside of trucks has some type of rust. With out some type of undercoating, it doesn't take long for surface rust to appear, good thing you don't live back east where salt on roads in winter would drive you crazy.

Read the entire thread, and it doesn’t change my stance that 350 miles is a short afternoon drive to be shod of something you’re unhappy with.

Inform the dealer that the truck is coming back, and that if they don’t agree with it, that your lawyer will be contacting them.

If that ain’t gonna work for you, then pay the money for a professional to sand and undercoat the vehicle. Lots of solutions here.

I know laws vary by state, but I'm fairly certain that would be a waste of legal fees in my state.

I’d bet the farm that the dealer doesn’t have the time nor the desire to go down that path, and a simple piece of letterhead from a law firm would speed the process right along.

Also, if your states law wouldn’t let you return a rusted vehicle that was brand new, it’s time to find a new state lol

I find it highly unlikely that the dealer or ram is going to do anything for me. After the holidays, I will begin to make the truck look like I feel it should for having 600 miles on it not something I had on my New Year’s resolution list.

At this point, I just hope this thread makes its way up to corporate. And they see the real value in paving the rest of that railyard lot.
As a business owner, there is no excuse for what some of these trucks look like showing up to dealers. In a perfect world, the dealers would spend copious amounts of time trying to make these trucks look right, but we don’t live in that world and so they’re getting passed on to customers and this one is pissed off. Good luck to all you know what to look for in my humble opinion.

Thanks, yeah my local dealer contacted their ram cares representative. Run around answer not covered under rust warranty.
Basically, the way they explained it to me is if it’s not rusting through the frame it’s not covered.
I will reach out though and keep everyone posted.

That is horrible. Trucks don’t rust here but if mine did akin to yours, I’d hose all of that with a rust converting, flat black spray paint.

Honestly, they don’t rust here either. My 94 Cummins 12 valve has less going on under it than this 25

Looks like Mark ram still has one that looks very similar to the one in my driveway. Mine did show up cleaner than this one in these pictures.
This truck will never look new no matter how much work is put into cleaning it up. I’m sure it has the same rust issues mine has.

I'm surprised to hear that Mark Ram will do nothing for or too help you, that said the next time I know of anyone who wants to buy a new Ram/Dodge they Mark Ram/Dodge will not be on my list of dealers I will recommend them to go see or buy from, too me it takes the wind out of there sails out of their claim they are the best to buy from.....

Mark dodge has a pretty good reputation vs this random guy on the internet that says the dirt in Mexico messed up his truck.

I did not press the issue super hard with with Mark Ram. I notified them they know i’mupset with the condition of the truck when it arrived. Again I don’t feel like the dealers are the root of this problem. Yes, my truck could've been cleaned up a lot better. I don’t think Mark ram is to blame the trucks show up dirty. They clean them the best they can and send them down the road.
My opinion is that until corporate decides to do something about what is causing this. The dealers and truck owners will end up being the ones that have to deal with it.

We all hope for you to get a timely and satisfactory resolution for you and your truck

But the fact remains that you took possession of a truck sight unseen and surface rust is going to be treated like paint scratches. They’re not going to take them seriously if they were reported after delivery. It doesn’t help your case that you sound looney taking Google image pics of the dirt in Mexico like freaking dirt doesn’t wash off of trucks.

All new trucks get surface rust on their steel [ frames, axles, bolts, exhaust] have rust because steel naturally reacts with oxygen and moister. I would say 99% of it is just cosmetic unless its deep structural rust. Dealers with their cost-cutting, save many $$$ by not painting or coating the undercarriage. If it's not structural rust and the dealer notes, it's just surface rust, I can't imagine them ripping everything apart and re-place with new. You can't just encapsulate with paint / coating as it will eventually just re-surface.

I will agree with you, cast-iron parts are going show up rusty from the factory. I’ve purchased many new vehicles and I understand what you’re saying. (This is different)

Ironically, I ran across those pictures on eBay while trying to figure out what my 21 might be worth on the open market. I can’t imagine how many of these trucks are out there. There’s so much mud caked under the chassis when they shut the door on the truck. Mud falls on the ground. If you look at the pictures, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
