Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT

I have been driving since the early 70’s so i have learned gas pedal control and speed play a bigger part then tires. At3 might have a slight advantage on ice but not enough to make me chose them for a heavy truck. I will throw another good tire out there falken at3w it holds a slight icy road advantage over the toyo at3. I had all 3 on the same vehicle, my 2018 rubicon Altho slightly different sizes 35/12.5-17 for RT, at3 was 35/11.5-17 and at3w was 255/80-17
Ya I agree 100% on the skinny pedeal thought. Ive grown up and lived in the Tahoe Area for about 20 years now and have seen many a Jeep bury themselves since due to lack of knowledge/experience.

Ill check out the atw3 as well. Thanks!

@franko Thanks for the pictures man. Looks awesome. I cannot wait to get my set installed once they arrive. I will post pics after install. Great looking sidewall and hearing nothing but great reviews.. the snowflake rating on a ''hybrid'' tire that competes with the Toyo RT and Ridge grappler really makes it in a league of its own.

I would buy them right now and stop looking if it weren't for one thing.. the sidewall design. I do not know why or if in person it would be better on the eyes.. but I just do not know if I like the design against the Ram body lines, weird I know...

I'm glad you bought a set. The sidewall design is one of my favorite parts of the tire... looks awesome both off and on the truck, if you ask me. Here's what 37s look like:

Holy.. that is SICK. Thank you for posting as that gives me the most realistic and close comparison to what it will be for mine as well. Black truck, AEV bumper and 17'' wheels. I am so stoked, definitely the right decision to buy. Anything you can tell me about the ride and handling? Did those get chosen and installed by AEV before you bought the rig or was it something you switched to from the usual AEV choice of a KO2?

Yeah, I had the original KO2s on before these. I was having issues with the KO2s in deep snow out here, so I made the switch. Off pavement, these things just eat up terrain. I've had them on ice, in deep snow, in mud, in the rocks... the hybrid style tread really works. The sidewalls are really thick too, so I think these tires are going to be really durable. I will say they are a little louder than my KO2s and the larger and much deeper treads do have just a bit more tread squirm if you corner hard. Overall, I think they are a great all around tire. Here are a couple more random pics in different types of terrain.

Awesome feedback and thanks for taking the time. This helps a ton. I expect the squirm will be less than the MT I am coming from and good to know the snow traction in the deep stuff is better than the KO2 as my uncle kept getting bogged down in some powder with the KO2's that his buddies could get out of.

Got the tires installed yesterday. They are absolutely amazing. Love the look and initial ride impressions. There is one thing that ruined my day though.. the donkey that mounted and balanced.. put enough wheel weights to kill a cat and as I drove the 35 mins home I started hearing a metal on metal clunk that got louder and faster with speed. Come to find out.. the guy that did the mount/balance also put one of his beloved wheel weights on the inside far edge of the wheel where there is 0 clearance and it was grinding into the wheel itself every rotation. 4 wheel parts in Langley B.C now owes me 3/4 Innov8 wheels at about $1k USD each. They are talking to the regional manager about next steps but I am just beside myself.. another reason I hate when people work on my truck even a little bit. I should have walked away when the guy told me I was wrong about the max inflation of the tire and should go off the sticker on the door that was for the stock tires. I honestly will not settle for anything less than new wheels as these are forged out of 1 piece of aluminum. I just know how expensive they are and the regional manager is not going to be happy. Good thing I am in the business so they know they cannot feed me a pile.. picture below is of 1 of the rims that was making the noise, the other rims with the disaster placement of wheel weight luckily got kicked off after making a few rotations it seems as they did not do the same damage.

Had a very similar experience: had a shop Mount 37x12.5/17 Baja Boss ATs.. The shop gouged one of my wheels and chipped another:.. also stacked the weights high on a 17” think i may have lost a few weights now since i have a vibe in the rear..

they had one wheel repainted but the shop over sprayed onto the bronze.. .. owner comes back today for the final verdict.. they said they’d replace the over-sprayed wheel.. we shall see about the other. Also noted that that scratched my tailgate (lowering the tailgate with a jack under the rear axle) can’t prove it now.. but damn.. truck has 5k miles!! I want to make the first scratch!!

Great tire though!! If we can get them balanced (I’m gunna go out on a limb and say the shop has ****ed up) Lol quieter than my ridge graps.. seem smother too.. no tread slap.. great in the wet.. only driven @200miles but so far so good.

Well re-balancing didn’t work.. they actually made it worse (huge surprise!!) it wasn’t bad to begin with.. 37x12.50/17? Absolutely love the way the tire feels!! Other than the slight vibe i have at 60-70mph.. it doesn’t feel much different than stock.. only better.. 80mph feels a little looser than stock.. i suppose once i put the steering stabilizer in it’ll tighten up.. also 80 is probably more like 88 since i haven’t corrected the speedo yet..

Shop is struggling to get them balanced.. this is the second attempt after they originally balanced them..

Anyone ever use balance beads?

I use the Centramatic Wheel balancers. They work well. I have had them 3 different Trucks.
Found out a tire is out of round.. shop scratched another wheel rotating the tires today.. took it to this shop 3x to get balanced one time the rotated them.. only made it worse..

took it to another shop for a second opinion.. took them 30sec and said it was out of round.. balancer said it needed 18oz of weight lol.. you could visibly see the wobble on the balancer.. at least I’m getting that tire replaced

I put Centramatics on and now I do not need to worry about wheel weights and balancing but the Centramatics are good but are not perfect, still some shimmy and shake at 100km/hr+ that was not as pronounced when on my properly balanced Toyo MT's. The Centramatics are worth they're weight in gold when you consider keeping the typical shop monkeys that are tasked with balancing our wheels.

I have them do a Balance anyway. It's free and I watch closely.

What are centramatics ?

37x12.5/R17 just an update of my above posts. I had vibrations at 60-70mph that wouldn’t balance out.. turned out to be a tire out of round. I thought I’d give you guys (if your curious) my summary of the Mickey Thomsons Baja Boss A/Ts.. First off, great company to deal with: The company was quick to a warranty the tire.. I had the replacement put on today all vibes are gone and it’s silky smooth.. this is the most aggressive, quietest, & smoothest AT I’ve ran.. coming from toyo AT2, & Nitto Ridgegrapplers before.. granted i had E rated tires before this. This is my first D rated tire that I’ve ran.. its not squirmy, & great in the rain so far. I’d definitely get another set if they last. Only time will tell.. I’ve got 1000 miles on them so far. 5/5 stars798C9CEA-4649-43E0-BE91-9E15F18AF394.jpeg9081B74D-7998-4283-A2BF-3315491F032B.jpeg

like bead balancers but the beads don't need to go in the tire. Highly used in Semi's
Gotcha thanks.. i had a tire out of round.. warranty replaced.. silky smooth now!! I didn’t think I’d ever get it balanced

This looks so mean. Did you offset at all? Are you stock height? What is your rubbing like? I am looking to get this exact tire with stock OEM rims and want to avoid too much rubbing. I like the tire to show a bit out of the fender without having to offset too aggressively

So after 31K miles, I swapped out the M/T and went to Kenda Klever RT
Tires were good for the most part. Got some weird cupping and wear on the outer edge.
Rebalanced tires. Installed new Carli track bar, Apex drag link and tie rod, fox shocks and fox stabilizer. Helped some.
