That is exactly what mine does. I had it at the dealer last January? With approx 9,500 miles on it. The tick has gotten significantly worse and now ticks at idle 85% of the time as well. I have not been back to the dealer as they told me it was normal egr function (obviously not). I don’t want them tearing into the engine because at that point I don’t want the truck any longer. I have done a uoa on every oil change since I bought it new. First oil change at 3,037 miles and iron was 34ppm. Second oil change at 9,347 miles (6,310 miles between oil changes) and iron was 47 ppm. Third oil change was done at 15,905 miles (6,558 miles since last oil change). Iron now at 118ppm and copper 90ppm and potassium remains elevated at 73ppm. As stated above, driving home from the outer banks I could hear the engine tapping driving next to barriers. It sounds terrible and did not sound like this when new. I bought the truck new in June of 2024 and do not tow. I daily drive the truck, mostly highway, and now have 20k miles on it. I have about 4k miles on this oil change interval and plan to change it when I get to around 22k miles. I will send another sample to oil analyzers to determine wear metals. Yes I am aware that diesels may take some time to break in; however, I wouldn’t anticipate iron to spike on the 3rd oil change interval. Something is wrong with this engine imo. I need to take a video increasing rpm’s.
