Lets see what you are towing!

Finally made the upgrade from 1500 to 2500

Have only towed about 25miles in the new 2500 but so far I can definitely tell the trailer does not push me around as much. There doesn't seem to be that big of a difference in power between the 6.4L and 5.7L. My 1500 does have the 3.92 rear end compared to the 3.73 on the 2500.

The 6.4 makes ~4% more horsepowers but the 2500 weighs a lot more

For me - it wasn't the power - its more of the cooling differences, and the purpose built nature of the 6.4 for hauling. my 5.7 oil temps would climb on long grades, way more than I was comfortable with.

Well the diesel version did make 550 ft/lbs IIRC ;)
There’s some videos out there of those Touareg V10 TDIs dragging duallies backwards. Even cooler was the Audi Q7 TDI. They didn’t release it with the diesel here, but in Europe you could get it with a 6 liter V12 diesel that made 500HP and 738 ft-lbs of torque (limited because ZF didn’t make a transmission that could handle more) back in 2009. With the speed limiter removed it’ll do almost 180 MPH. For comparison the Cummins that year made 350HP and 650 ft-lbs.

That's a girls jeep! Lol....j/k....how was sand hollow? I'm headed there in September.....are you v8 swapped? What axles are you running?
Hahaha, I get it all the time. My buddies want me to ditch the Jeep and get a buggy. Maybe someday.

Sand Hollow was awesome! Moab has spectacular views, but Sand Hollow has more serious trails all concentrated within the park. I love that you can just go wherever you choose and not be confined to the trails like Moab.

It's got the Dynatrac XD60/D80 axles, 1350/1410 drivelines, and Atlas 4.3:1 transfer case. When I have the time to do it, I might swap in a V8. Right now I just try to enjoy it and stop thinking about throwing more money at it.

Update:

I pulled the camper to the campground about an hour away. Maybe its the 6.4 w/the 8speed but there was a noticeable difference merging and passing. Not to mention the solid feel while pulling the trailer. I looked down at one point and caught myself doing 75mph. 70mph in the 1500 was very noticeable and could be little nerve racking in some situations. Stopping the trailer was another major improvement and I upgraded my rotors and pads on the old truck with an HD towing variant.

Overall, very happy with the upgrade and will be pulling this 7k trailer for a long time.

Ha, until you see a 10k lb trailer you like better - it happens! Happened to me, but luckily I already had a DRW suitable for the new shiny lol.

New truck does have 5th wheel prep, so its a little future proof.

Would have to be a smaller 5er though.

6.4 pulls my 10k 5’r just fine, also pulled a 12k TT amazing well. Don’t know that I’d go much more than that but the old outdated Hemi likes to work ;)

I'd assume 10k trailer would be fine, its the pin weight of a 5th wheel I feel will be the limiting factor.

Of course, payload and towing #s are fake news anyway... Rams history of changing #s and not changing any aspect of the truck has diminished my faith in "tow" ratings.. lol

In all seriousness though, I do wish they could up the payload on these a little bit. 2024 Chevy Silverado is pushing 4k on payload, granted they use the leaf spring vs coil spring. Coils give a slight better ride but not much, IMO anyway.

My 23 Bighorn is rated at 14,852 towing and 2,938 payload. So... 15k towing and 3k payload right? :D

The interesting thing is I have seen 23 Tradesman with less payload, not sure what gives on that one. It is a long bed vs short bed, maybe thats it.

I agree the Hemi is a great engine, it was one of my deciding factors. My old 5.7 went through manifold bolts like underwear but its a workhorse and always pulled the trailer well.
