Lane keeping died after windshield replacement

Service writer said they only recalibrated the system. I didn't see a ticket since I am not paying for it. I know they didn't road test, since clearly the system doesn't work. The dealership is on a section of road that has a speed limit that would allow the system to activate and would have taken all of five minutes. I also have a tracker installed in the truck!!!!!! I was born at night, but it wasn't last night. LOL

I have always received the work order even on warranty stuff that has what the tech wrote as to the problem and the fix. Definitely let them know they are wasting your time.

Interesting, since the DASM calibration procedure can only be done by driving the truck for about 5 miles. That should give them the return trip back to the dealership to test things out.

Found a forum where another 21 had identical symptoms after a windshield replacement. 7 calibrations and 2 windshields later, the dealer replaced the lane sense camera. That finally fixed it. Just waiting for the dealership to give me another appointment. A new camera is 3 grand in Canada. This could take a while.

Is the entire calibration procedure done on a road test?
Yes. They have to connect to witech, pull up the DASM calibration procedure, answer two questions if stock size tires and stock ride height, click start, and start driving.

I assume it would be obvious to the tech if the system was not working while on the road test. My tracker only showed the vehicle in the shop.

If it never left the shop, they couldn’t have possibly calibrated it.
This is the calibration procedure (actual term is alignment):

I am probably dreaming but I don't recall the orange lines on the factory windshield, presumably where the lane keeping camera is located. I went through all my photos but don't have a really good shot of the front to be able to tell. Can somone with a 2021 with lanekeeping look at their windshield and tell me if their original windshield has those lines? They might be a different color and not sure what their function is. Since I am having issues, just want to be sure the glass place put the correct windshield in.

Yes, those orange lines are supposed to be there. That is the defroster for the DASM camera.

So, took the truck to the second dealership this morning. They did a soft ware update and not sure what else. They did take it on the road according to the tracker I have in the truck. They said it was "working". Picked it up. Guess what? Not working. So they will be ordering a camera. They also said it was definitely related to the windshield replacement. Hopefull the camera is in stock. This is starting to get old.

That's so frustrating when dealership techs cant get it right - I mean you have to question if they really know what they are doing at this point.

Well, I have the answer to that. The two techs working on this truck in the past two visits to dealerships did NOT know what they were doing. The service advisor told me the tech made some "tweaks" to the software. That makes absolutely no sense. They also depend on the customer being totally ignorant of how things work. They did not do an alignment calibration on the road. Only a road test and that would have told them it was obviously not working. I told them that if they don't feel the corrective torque on the steering wheel, it is NOT working. Fell on deaf ears.

I have always wondered how they seem to be ok with revisiting a vehicle multiple times, I would imagine at some point starts to become on their dime.

In this case it is on the folks that did the windshield. I did get the Chrysler extended warranty so the work would be covered either way. However, I suspect the Chrysler Warrantee route would not be very generous in terms of time and payment. They did say that the issue was caused by the windshield replacement. Not sure how they would determine that except that the failure occured shortly after the windshield was replaced. One of these days I will take the mirror trim off to see what is behind there. Or maybe not. LOL

So I followed up with the second dealership today. They want the truck back for a WEEK! Something to do with Chrysler engineering to tell them to replace the camera. This is getting old. So, when I get home, I take out my Topdon Phoenix Elite scanner and I poke around to find it has ADAS support for a 2021 Ram 3500. I also have the AutoAuth subscription for it to bypass the security gateway although the bypass cable I have will do the same job. get it set up and take the truck for a ride as it requires dynamic calibration (drive the truck). Scanner shows it is calibrated successfully after a few miles as does the adaptive cruise (it always worked). So I cycle the key, clear any codes (there weren't any) as instructed by the scanner and drive it hoping that I fixed it. Nope. No doubt there is a hardware issue. But nice to know the scanner can do this sort of thing. Stay tuned for the next chapter. Had I known, I would never had let them replace the windshield. At least the truck is drivable.

This has turned in to quiet the saga - let us know what you find!
