Hum from rear axle

I’m noticing a hum coming from the rear axle that starts around 74 mph and becomes very noticeable by 80 mph—especially when letting off the throttle, which makes me think its the pinion gears as riding the backside of the gears increases noise. The truck only has ~400 miles on it.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I know it’s under warranty—I’m calling the dealer tomorrow to set up an appointment. Just trying to see if others are running into rear axle issues. Every Ram I've had having the AAM 11.5" were flawless.

Update: First available apt 4/17. I'm sure its only going to get worse until then. Guess I'll wait to tow even after hitting 1k miles and getting a number of heat cycles on drivetrain. Don't want that being a way for them to deny warranty. At least I'm not getting the electrical and emission issues others are having (hope I didn't just jinx myself). LOL

I had an 8:30 appointment Friday morning, dropped the truck off, and haven’t heard anything since. Its Saturday evening. According to the app, it hasn’t been moved or driven yet. I get that they may be busy, but it makes me question the point of having an appointment if they’re not at least slotting you in to confirm the issue and get parts on order if needed. Not a huge deal since they gave me a loaner, but it’s hard to do “truck stuff” in a Jeep Compass. HAHA.

The bigger concern is that I explained the noise starts around 70 mph and peaks near 80 mph, which is typical driving speed for me on the Garden State Parkway here in NJ. The service advisor said he can’t document those speeds and may not be able to reproduce the issue since they’re not legal speeds. If that ends up being their final answer, I’ll ask to take them out for a drive myself, because I’m not accepting that as a resolution on a new vehicle that clearly has an issue.

My 2026 3500 does the exact thing, took it the dealership and talked with Ram care, problem not yet solved. I would love to talk with Ram care again to see if we can get the rear axle noise taken care of. My first ram and I really like it

My rear axle has hummed a bit since new. Has had a couple fluid changes - once at 500 miles and another at 30k. At 66k now and fluid still looks great. I ignore it.

Well, I called dealer around 3pm as I haven't heard a thing since I dropped off the truck. I was told my service adviser is not available (after a brief hold) and I should leave message which I did but no call back.

Ram App says it was driven 10 miles before noon. I now see 2 codes (emergency brake pedal and ABS failure) which most likely are from them working on truck.

Appears they also did not lower rear axle tire TPMS alert like I requested as tire pressure is back to 78 psi (i was running around 50psi).

Ram Cares reached out today stating they cannot give me an update as they too tried to contact my dealer / adviser who was not available.

I'm happy they are working on a resolution vs. sending truck back to me stating could not reproduce issue.

Dropped the truck off Friday morning and didn’t hear anything, so I called yesterday and left a message. After still not hearing back, I called again today and finally got the adviser, who said he was “just about to call me”—sure. He mentioned two different people drove the truck but couldn’t reproduce the hum. I asked if they took it on the highway up to 80 mph, and he said probably not since that exceeds the speed limit. I told him that’s exactly where the issue shows up, so I scheduled to come in tomorrow at 9am to drive with the tech since today was too late (union shop, they leave early). I just don’t understand why it takes from Friday to Tuesday afternoon just to test drive and give an update. I know others have had worse experiences with Ram service, but I can definitely see where the frustration comes from. We’ll see how tomorrow goes. To top it off, they said nothing can be done about lowering the TPMS alert pressure, so I guess I’ll be waiting on a tuner—whenever that becomes available.

That's the most frustrating thing about taking a truck that's under warranty for service - "unable to duplicate " is the worst thing to hear.

Regarding TPMS in case you haven't seen it yet:
