I’m noticing a hum coming from the rear axle that starts around 74 mph and becomes very noticeable by 80 mph—especially when letting off the throttle, which makes me think the pinion gears are riding on the backside of the gear set. My initial thought is that it could be the gears, but I’m not completely sure. In the past, when I’ve had gears go bad, the noise usually started around 20–30 mph and gradually got louder with speed, so this seems a bit different.
The truck only has just over 400 miles on it.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
I know it’s under warranty—I’m calling the dealer tomorrow to set up an appointment. Just trying to see if others are running into rear axle issues. Every Ram I've had having the AAM 11.5" were flawless.
