Hey fellas. This is my first Cummins RAM but I've been enthusiastically reading the forum since before I bought it and I need some of y'alls expertise and advice.

I have a 2019 2500 SO with ~18,600 miles and a day after I got to work, 600 miles from home, I got a CEL that prevented remote starts. I borrowed a buddies code reader and it gave me P24C9 and P24B5 codes. Both codes point to "The Particulate Matter Sensor used to determine the efficiency of the DPF by measuring the amount of particulate matter (soot) remaining in the exhaust gas after the DPF". Both codes point to SCR relay 2 circuit. I have NEVER seen my DPF gauge go above zero in the cluster but have seen multiple REGEN cycles since I have owned it. I currently rarely tow so the truck has never really worked hard. I usually drive it back and forth to work which is a 9 hour, ~600 mile trip on the interstate. I work 14 days on and 14 off so during the 14 days on I drive it back and forth from the hangar to the housing area we stay in which is about a 3 minute scoot.

The question I have for the experts - you guys - is, can/should I drive this home without it leaving me on the highway or causing more damage to something, or do I need to figure out how to get it to a dealer here in BFE? I would REALLY prefer to get it home to my dealer rather than drop it in at some random dealer I have no experience or relationship with.

It seems to be a sensor issue and the truck seems to run and behave normally at the moment. Concern I have is, will this fault prevent it from REGENing should it need to on the trip home and therefore causing additional issues with my DPF? Like I said - I have NEVER seen the DPF gauge register anything, and I watch it frequently, it has NEVER been below 1/4 tank on DEF or Fuel, and it has had dealer oil changes every 8,500 miles (since I negotiated 6 free oil changes with purchase of truck).

Thanks RAM Cummins community!

I did. The DPF sensor was replaced by the dealership under warranty at my home dealer. I was able to drive the truck home without issue. The truck did go into a REGEN about an hour into the drive home. It took the dealer 3 weeks to get the part but they did fix it.

BTW - @RamCares is AWESOME! When it was taking the dealership SO long to get the part and get my truck back on the road I contacted them and within 3 days my truck was fixed and back to me. They were a huge help and offered to get me a rental if I needed along with coordinating with the dealer and helping to push along the logistics to get the job done. THANKS again @RamCares!

Just got these codes myself. Posted a new thread about it. I reset mine for now but if they keep coming back, I'll talk to dealer about ordering parts. Thanks for this post.

And... sure enough. It's the sensor and no parts to be had anywhere! 14,000km bought in December and now VOR'd. Not amused in the slightest. I'll contact @RamCares but if it's a parts delay, don't think they can do anything.

Worst part is we are now down a vehicle in the family and had a camping trip next weekend....

How did you reset the codes? Recommend anything on Amazon that could help me clear these? Awaiting parts for this issue as well

Actually it was pointless to reset, they came right back. You can use any ODBII code reader to clear them.

Good news however is I had the truck for our camping trip as the dealer suspected the extra load from the trailer would get the exhaust hot enough to burnt the DPF and sure enough it did. Back to 0% on my DPF gauge and truck drove/hauled fine even with the codes present.

So not as much of a panic now since truck appears fine (I still suspect the sensor just needs cleaning but I'm not messing with an in-warranty vehicle and Dealer Technician has to do what the Service Procedure says (test and replace part).

I'll update if it gives us any new issues but at least we can drive the damn thing.

Cheers
Tim

My situation is a bit different. Since I live in CA, I have to get a smog check to renew my registration. This check engine light will prevent the smog test from passing. Dealer keeps saying parts backordered. My truck will have to sit at the end of this month until this warranty item comes in.

Just be sure to pay the registration so you don't get fined. I am also in CA. I did that with my Jeep once. I fixed and smogged it shortly after and my registration showed up automatically.

My part finally came in, truck was serviced yesterday and no CEL finally. Just in time for winter when I need remote start lol.

Cheers

Do you by chance know what parts they actually did? I'm out of warranty. Was it (68354201AB) particulate matter sensor?

Well it's back... I'm now at 40,000 km and over the weekend got a CEL (check engine light).

Scanned and P24D1 came up with pending P24B5 and P24C9.... same sensor gone bad again....

Wonder if they updated the part number with AC now..... argh.

Mine came back a couple thousand mile ago too. There is a software flash that is out that widens the parameters of the sensors that the dealer installed. Apparently as the motor breaks in the emissions profile changes and the sensor parameters are too tight causing it show a fault when the emissions parameters get outside its range. Hopefully that is problem with yours and a re-flash is all you need. Mine has been fine so far since they flashed in the updated software.

Awesome thanks. If you have the invoice where it noted the TSB that would be awesome! My dealer is terrible for this type of stuff, I have to look it up online and find it for them and usually they still deny it exists until I bring the paperwork.

I called the dealer, part is still back ordered (over 200 back orders!!!!) but 500+ just got released, still not in stock. So it looks like there is still an issue with these sensors.

Checked online to find a TSB but could not find anything.

Well another wasted trip. Sure enough, tech indicates "requires pm sensor".... "parts order".

It did state "Added Operation perform RRT 20-095" which I think is the TPMS sensor but I got no parts from them.

I am currently out of town at work but when I return home I’ll see what I can find on the invoice.

Hey man, have you heard or ran into problems replacing the sensor.? I have pb blaster on it now and next step is heating it up w butane torch but I couldn’t break it loose w opened end wrench ordered the sensor socke. Also did you have to drop the exhaust to get the module loose?
