Hey fellas. This is my first Cummins RAM but I've been enthusiastically reading the forum since before I bought it and I need some of y'alls expertise and advice.
I have a 2019 2500 SO with ~18,600 miles and a day after I got to work, 600 miles from home, I got a CEL that prevented remote starts. I borrowed a buddies code reader and it gave me P24C9 and P24B5 codes. Both codes point to "The Particulate Matter Sensor used to determine the efficiency of the DPF by measuring the amount of particulate matter (soot) remaining in the exhaust gas after the DPF". Both codes point to SCR relay 2 circuit. I have NEVER seen my DPF gauge go above zero in the cluster but have seen multiple REGEN cycles since I have owned it. I currently rarely tow so the truck has never really worked hard. I usually drive it back and forth to work which is a 9 hour, ~600 mile trip on the interstate. I work 14 days on and 14 off so during the 14 days on I drive it back and forth from the hangar to the housing area we stay in which is about a 3 minute scoot.
The question I have for the experts - you guys - is, can/should I drive this home without it leaving me on the highway or causing more damage to something, or do I need to figure out how to get it to a dealer here in BFE? I would REALLY prefer to get it home to my dealer rather than drop it in at some random dealer I have no experience or relationship with.
It seems to be a sensor issue and the truck seems to run and behave normally at the moment. Concern I have is, will this fault prevent it from REGENing should it need to on the trip home and therefore causing additional issues with my DPF? Like I said - I have NEVER seen the DPF gauge register anything, and I watch it frequently, it has NEVER been below 1/4 tank on DEF or Fuel, and it has had dealer oil changes every 8,500 miles (since I negotiated 6 free oil changes with purchase of truck).
Thanks RAM Cummins community!
