Heated Side Mirrors

You’re pretty much screwed, especially since the ball socket broke off. They don’t sell the motor parts separately.
For future reference, these are the four tabs that need to be released-

F.....

Knowing I had the right parts I went back and installed them. Managed to do the PS without ripping off the motor parts.
For anyone reading about to do this, the KEY is to release those tabs marked in red, not just pry on the mirror like Boost says in their video.

I did pull this motor off to find mfg markings. I’m hoping I can reach out to them and buy this little module rather than having to buy a whole mirror assm. The mirror does still adjust but not like it should, and it’s not as stiff in position so will probably move a lot while driving.

Good news, maybe: I found what looks to be a the same internals, maybe slightly different housing. Same mfg. $60. I will try to transfer parts (replace the motor or gear). Cheaper to try this than replace the whole $500 mirror.

Humm... so what is the correct way to install these? I don't want to destroy my mirrors!

See Jimmy’s post a couple up. Release the 2 of the clips, 3 if you can reach it, then carefully pry the mirror off... rather than just prying the mirror off like I did. I did the P/S this way and it wasn’t difficult.

Did you used pliers to pull on those or ??
Did you remove the top mirror first?

No remove the main/large mirror glass first(per the boost video...it’s a but tricky, but you’ll get it). With the large mirror out, then you can reach (2 or 3 of) those clips on the spotter mirror with your fingers.

The heart motor transplant was successful using the motor assembly from Ebay that looked similar. Reused the whole motor assembly, totally plug and play. I just had to carefully remove the gyro part that the ball sockets attach to and swap in the original one from the truck. This was a much better solution than having to buy a whole $500 mirror. I am relieved.

Mods: can we move this thread to 4.5 Gen Exterior?

About 40* this morning + overnight rain; the heated convex mirrors worked great. Cleared the fog quicker than the OEM heaters on the main glass. Started clearing almost immediately.

Finally got to install those heated mirrors. It was way easier than expected. From the knowledge shared here it was super easy.

Just go slow, no force required to unsnap everything. Top mirror is very easy to unsnap. Then, locate the pins on lower mirror and work your way through with a long flat screwdriver. Nothing will break.

Took 10 mins on first to understand what I was doing and maybe 3 mins on the second one.

Can't wait for some frost :D
