Gear indicator option in gauge cluster?

Hi guys. Is this something (enabling the gear display) that a dealer could do? After all, the option is described in the Owners Manual, but appears to be disabled so that a mere mortal can't even see it. I don't have an OBDI reader, nor the bypass cable nor AlphaOBD nor an Android device. Acquiring all of this just to be able to see the selected gear (without having to go through the gear lock sequence) is a bit overkill... Or is there a really good reason why FCA didn't enable this?

I mentioned it to the dealer... they had no clue. I was able to enable this on my 2019 1500, but apparently it isn't an option on the 2500 unless you're using AlphaOBD...which, for me, I have no reason to purchase.

I changed mine today, but dont see it in evic yet.

So, for those of us without Alfa OBD, is it safe to assume that the dealer should be able to enable this feature?

When I took my truck in for service, I mentioned it and they said they were also unable to make it work...

I also used alfaobd to enable this, this is what it should have had from the start!

This is so frigging ridiculous: it’s described in the Owner’s Manual, but is not available by default. However, it clearly exists since the option “just” has to be enabled through the obdi interface + security bypass harness + alphaobd on Android/windows. Then the setting exists as described in the manual. Come on FCA: why can’t mere mortals or the dealership enable this? This isn’t a delete or tuning that would void the warranty. Why can’t FCA create the instructions so that a dealer could do this? Or am I just hopelessly naive?

I agree 100%! Why, why, why? Simple and very useful, especially if you tow a lot...

Five of our last six vehicles have been Mopars, but this kind of stupid **** is wearing me down.

Common sense is lacking with the guys that sit behind a desk and think of things to NOT enable in the vehicles. They probably have never even driven a truck, let alone towed something.

I wonder

I wonder if @RamCares can help get this available to us. At least for out dealers to have the ability to add this to our vehicles.

If you guys think the “disabled” options on our trucks are bad you should see how many features are disabled on VWs and Audis that require basically the same steps to activate.

I wonder if it was just an oversight and they intended on having it a feature in the the HD's but it isn't due to a programming error.

You guys need to let this go. It would cost you much less to buy the cable and software than have the dealer charge you to do it even if they could.

I wasn't going to let my dealer charge me. This seems to be (as mentioned above) a programming error, since the option is described in the Owner's Manual, and does exist if you enable it with the whole AlphaOBD sequence. Again, I'm probably hopelessly naive, but I don't see why I should pay for FCA's mistake. That said, I've got to say that I'm pretty happy with my 3500, if this is one of the things bothering me! :)
