Gear indicator option in gauge cluster?

Car configuration change: Actual Gear Display: ' NO ' -> '1 '

ECUConfig 4:
Actual Gear Display: Yes

Is this two settings you are changing or one?

Only one, at least in my case, with alfaobd. Then go through the setup screen with your steering wheel buttons, select 'current gear' and check 'on'....

@RamCares I see that your logged in , can you give us an update on where your at with this adjustment for us so dealers can enable what is clearly already there. We would appreciate your help. Thank you.

@Rich It seems like multiple people have im'ed or tagged Ram Cares with no response. This kind of "cosmetic" issue probably isn't in their purview.

Your probably right. An honestly to me is quite a trivial issue. I just joined in on this thread not to long ago and just thought that id give it a go to try to make a difference to those who care more about this feature than I do. It would be cool to have but I personally can manage just fine with out it. My frustration comes in to this with a disappointment that these vehicles could be easily capable of so many improvements. My personnel pick would be eliminating the 10 second camera delay. We could go on and on with all the improvements that should of never been an issue but a feature or standard that you can automatically have on your setting to further personalize your your driving experience. I know these aren't 300k lambos but 80-90 k on a pu truck for most of Americans is a pretty fine luxury that should come with every possible technology and personalization that is out there. None of us should have any complaints with that much money spent. So I'm just hoping that every now and again someone at ram can throw us a bone or two or three to pamper us for carrying them on the backs of hard working people during such troubled times. @RamCares please feel free to give us an answer either way on some of these issues occasionally so we can move on either way. Thanks again for your help.

You still don't get it. You can bitch until you're blue in the face. You're just talking to the hand.

Phil I know you don't mean no ill will by that, but like I said, I personally could care less about seeing what gear I'm in, yeah it would be cool but don't matter to me either way. I just try to always stand up for what's right and help make a difference even when its not about what I like. If bitchen means that, then I'm good with it. The least they could do is just come out and address an issue and tell people either way on were they stand so people can move on to another topic. Yes there's always those that are going to complain about everything all the time no matter what but being a past part of a big conglomerate , the least mgmt and reps can do is face issues head on and be honest whether it's answer upsets people or not, at least you then know where they stand. I know this is asking allot of a company it seems, but thats the way I believe it should work. I'm also not nieve and recognize that's not always the case

It's not about you at all. I am trying to point out that FCA has no reason whatsoever to make any of us owners happy. That's not their focus. We already are owners and they made their profit. This is not a service that they are providing, but a product. Recalls are only done because they must. Providing additional features once the sale is made would cost money and they are in business to make a profit.

My only point in all of this is that the particular feature is described in the manual, but isn’t enabled in software that I can’t fix easily without buying things that I shouldn’t have to buy to do things that should have been enabled by default. I’m not talking about feature changes or anything else like that. OK. I’ll stop here. Clearly there are owners who don’t see this way, and clearly FCA doesn’t care either. It would have been nice, but it is not essential.

We'll, no truer words could be spoken but that makes me sad . I would get it if I bought a dodge dart of the used lot to be a one an done but to spend 85k of ones retirement savings on a vehicle they should be bending over backwards to provide a after the sales services to make you feel like your part of THE FAMILY , that would be a real buisness. owner support should be part of a sale. We always use to try to cater to our customers and bring that personalization. I'm not blind to what actually happens out there but i still have to hope that there are some at fca that do care to make us owners happy. Maybe just wishful thinking.

You're not alone. When RAM provides documentation saying it works this way, it's part of their total sale contract. Manufacturers will always point to the warnings in the manuals to defend themselves. They expect you to adhere to the operating and service instructions in the manuals. In my opinion, they use the manuals as binding agreements, hence they are also bound by them. If it's an easy feature to turn on, which it apparently is, and it's documented in the manual, then they are obliged to provide access to it. (Unless it's an option that was NOT purchased on the vehicle.)

Gear Indicator on right side of the Odometer
I did it a couple of days ago, easy peasy. I also have it on my Edge CP3. I like it! Here's how:
AlfaOBD:
Car configuration Change:
ECUConfig 4:
Actual Gear for Display: Yes
Vehicle:
Then go to EVIC
Select settings
Select Gear Display: Yes

It seems you missed the last several posts...

The point is that we should not have to buy something to make something work that is claimed to function in the manual.
I have yet to figure out any reason I would need to buy an alfabod...

Im with yah on that. Not seen any thing of real significance to me that would prompt me to spend the 100 bucks on an alpha obd. Now id spend it in a heart beat if it would take off camera time out. It would be nice if somebody would start a thread of all the things you can change with an alpha. Again if only @RamCares would step up and say yes or no and this is the reason then most everybody could move on.

Wrong! I didn't miss any posts. I got your point. It's just that I don't dwell on something I cannot affect. I dwell on what can I do to accomplish the goal. I was responding to the PO's original question by saying I did it like others and it was easy.

I respect that you "have yet to figure out any reason I would need to buy an alfabod". If you are happy with the way your truck was delivered, then yes, I agree, you have no reason. However, your posts indicate you are not happy. I have used AllfaOBD to make several changes to my 2016 1500 Ecodiesel and now on my 2020 3500. Some saved me money in that I didn't have to pay the dealer to do and some the dealer cannot do - a great program!

With or without the gear display feature, it's a great truck.

Rich,
Here's the thread

https://www.ramforum.com/threads/alfaobd.123982/

This thread was inactive for seven months if I remember correctly, and I started it back up with the original question. Everybody is right in the fact that if it's in the manual then you should be able to go into your dash settings and turn it on if you want it. Since the thread started up again, there is now a way to activate the read out on the dash, so there is an option! Its a choice for each of us if we want it and its an understandable choice for those that don't want to spend the money to do so. So in the end everyone's comments here are valid and nobody is missing the point, and in the end If any of us can activate this ourselves, I'm sure the dealers can as well. Either way if your truck didn't come with it, then your gonna pay one way or the other.

Thanks for the thread John. I just glanced at it and now i know why i get in trouble at times when I post a comment or question on a thread about a topic that others are talking about even though it's not in step with the original post. I pulled up the link and saw 1190 pgs and read the first two and backed out. Thanks for the effort but I don't have the attention span for 1190 pgs of drug out b.s. about how great it is. It would just be nice if people could short and sweet post top 10 things they changed w/O all the blah blah blah. I do appreciate your help though.
