Fuel spout protection

I purchased this one from Geno’s and put on my 2019 Ram Limited Mega Cab DRW. I’m not really happy with the fit. It’s ok but not like it should be IMO. So, I said WTF and ordered these cheap ones form Amazon- haven’t got them in yet, but I will post my opinion. View attachment 4626View attachment 4625
I had this Amazon one for my 2016 ecodiesel. When I bought my 2020 3500, I moved it over. Fits fine for me.

Here is a low budget $5 prototype I’ve been playing around with for my 2021 Cummins bighorn. 1 1/4” PVC plug from the hardware store. Drilled three groves in the sides. The magnet was just one I had stuck to my tool box from who knows where. Plan to cut an O-ring grove with the table saw. Without the O-ring it just rattles in the opening. I’ll update with more pictures soon. Not the prettiest but I figured nobody’s gona see it much anyhow as long as keeps the dirt and DEF out I’m happy.

I make a lot of stuff but not worth making for this price i had paid 13$ when i got mine

The newer trucks (2019-21) have the three ribs that require groves on the plug. Most all of the aluminum plugs made for those years run $40 or more.

Does anyone know why they put those ribs on the fill tube to begin with?

Probably to help with air when using truck pumps, would be my guess.
