Fuel spout protection

I just can't bring myself to do it. 30+ years of driving, 40+ vehicles owned, probably over a million miles driven all over this country (both nice areas and shady) and I've never once had my fuel siphoned or had anyone put anything in my tank. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, i'm just saying the odds are low enough that I'll keep my buck and a quarter.
That's been my sentiment for quite some time. However, I've run across some unusually warped and twisted individuals as of late. Individuals that froth about armageddon and thoughts about taking matters into their own hands. Really unsettling junk from these confused citizens. Considering the bill to remedy a contaminated fuel/DEF system on these already overpriced vehicles, I've convinced meself that some locking caps were relatively cheap insurance agaisnt the odd, opportunistic quack that thinks he/she is saving the planet.

I learned a lesson today, if you pour an expensive additive of diesel treatment into the tank without manually opening the flap, it will just drain out and into the inside of the fender. awesome. lol

We learn from our mistakes.

You forgot the people who are always jealous because someone has something nice, or nicer then them, no matter the circumstances.

I reuse a long necked fuel treatment bottle for my PowerService additive. It’s just long enough to engage that internal flap. I have to do it in one quick motion but it works.

If you use the fuel spout funnel, works fine, you have to put it all the way in.

I got frustrated with the non-locking genos cap.
So out came dremel grinding wheel, torch and hook.

First - i ground some material off the cap as shown. Angled down where the arrow is so the cap will "lock" into place when installed.
It almost worked - but this Genos cap obvious was not build to fit my truck. So i heated up the hook and melted off a very small amount from the 2 ridges.

The cap works like it should now.
I dont recommend anyone buy the cap - but if you did, this is how you can make it work.

My Geno's non-locking cap works fine. It is the newer version for the new style neck with the ridges. I had bought the original version before the new neck was a known thing. It would work, but I had to pry it out with my pocket knife. I gave that to a friend with a 4th Gen, and got this one.

If the ones I just ordered dont fit perfectly they are going back

I emailed them about the same thing with my cap. Their reply was less than accommodating, saying they have never heard of an issue, and is this really a problem? lol I mean its designed with an 1/2" engagement to be secured and only turns 1/8". I was honestly surprised i was seeing their reply after spending $30+ on a fuel cap!
Scott from Geno's replied: "This is not something that we have seen come up before. You mentioned that you are able to turn the cap about 1/8”. Is the cap secure in the filler neck at that point, because it is not going to turn much further if any further than that. Let me know if it is secure in the filler neck once turned and we will go from there."

Maybe their first batch was wrong. It seems all the early adopters got caps that dont fit correctly.

I think its more like a locking vs non-locking difference here. At least, the locking ones don't seems to have any problems.

Yup, and they even sent me a C sticker, a bag of pop corn for the wife and some old diesel mags. My Ginos experience was perfect.

That's not what it looks like on Geno's site.

Looks like you got one that wasn't finished being machined. Now that you modified it, it's unlikely they'll swap it out.

FWIW. my locking caps fit and work as expected.

Same cap - different angle.
Now that we've clarified the difference between locking and non-locking, i dont know of anyone who has a non-locking genos cap that fits correctly.

I posted above, and mine is non-locking. Fits OK by me.

Did you order this one 2nd one below)? It's the only diesel non-locking I found for the 2020 trks that appears to fit.
