So, watch the dashcam video and let me know your thoughts.....the auto-stop didn’t kick in to stop the vehicle...or assist in braking...I had my foot hard on the brakes and still couldn’t stop the vehicle in time to avoid the bumpers from kissing.... Very minor damage to the truck, the other vehicle has more damage......

Dang, that sucks!

What sucks is that if a leaf blows by the front bumper, the truck goes crazy and stops me dead in my tracks....but when a car pulls in front, nothing......not blaming the auto stop, stuff happens, but dang it....

not sure what the ram manual states, but I believe for my honda accord collision avoidance breaking requires a vehicle speed of 35mph or greater.

I'd be sending that video to your insurance company. They should fight that being your fault. You were following at a safe distance until that jackwagon cut you off. They may also subrogate against Ram if the system didn't perform as intended.

Yes, my insurance adjuster has the video and agrees that it was the Hyundai lady’s fault for trying to squeeze in then slamming on brakes. As soon as I told her that I have a dashcam, she got back in her car and took off. Then calls my insurance and says I rear ended her.......what’s wrong with people.....

Call the cops and report her for causing the accident and then leaving the scene. That's at least a misdemeanor offense in some states. Tell them you have video from the dashcam. Let her deal with them.

As far as the operation, you should have gotten the "Brake" screen and maybe the chime from the warning system. This is from the owner's manual. If I'm reading it correctly, it is supposed to warn you first and if you DON'T brake then it will. And it will try to provide additional brake force. But if you had the brakes down hard, there may not have been additional braking force available. You may have already had it at max?

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) With Mitigation — If
Equipped
The Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system provides the
driver with audible, visual warnings (within the instrument
cluster display), and may apply a haptic warning in the form
of a brake jerk, to warn the driver when it detects a potential
frontal collision. The warnings are intended to provide the
driver with enough time to react, avoid or mitigate the
potential collision.
NOTE:
FCW monitors the information from the forward looking
sensors as well as Electronic Brake Controller (EBC), to calculate
the probability of a forward collision. When the system
determines that a forward collision is probable, the driver
will be provided with audible and visual warnings as well as
a possible haptic warning in the form of a brake jerk.
If the driver does not take action based upon these progressive
warnings, then the system will provide a limited level of
active braking to help slow the vehicle and mitigate the
potential forward collision. If the driver reacts to the warnings
by braking and the system determines that the driver
intends to avoid the collision by braking but has not applied
sufficient brake force, the system will compensate and
provide additional brake force as required.
If a FCW with Mitigation event begins at a speed below
32 mph (52 km/h), the system may provide the maximum
braking possible to mitigate the potential forward collision.
If the Forward Collision Warning with Mitigation event
stops the vehicle completely, the system will hold the vehicle
at standstill for two seconds and then release the brakes.

^thanks for the details. It [sic] definitely did not kick in as I know the warning / active braking very well. I did have the brakes applied all the way down and abs was locking in/out. Still bumped her. There just wasn’t enough road.
A good warning though to not rely on the FCW/AB to kick in and prevent an accident. It failed as you can see in the video.

im not trying to be a smart ass but did you have it activated? you have to go into the menu screen and activate it (or turn it off if you dont want it) just wondering if you did

Yes, fully aware. It’s active, FcW sensitivity set to medium + active braking. Seriously though, the truck will active brake regularly for ghost objects or construction barrels on a turn but didn’t even flinch during the accident. Again, not blaming the system as operator should be driving and responsible for braking.

Wonder if there was a problem with your sensor. The video looks like the road may have been a bit damp, perhaps a light film covering the sensor(s)? If you didn't at least get the alarm, it's clear that the system didn't detect the obstacle. Gotta be a reason. Makes you wish the cam was also recording your instrument panel.

I agree with you on the operator error. I feel for you, but I'd feel exactly the same way you do if it happened to me.

If you were already on the brakes at or above the amount the truck would have applied them you won’t get any warning or engagement. It’s only designed to step in if it doesn’t think you’re doing enough.

Having owned several vehicles with similar systems (including a few VWs that have one of the best) they all are slow to engage on vehicles entering your lane from the side because they don’t want unnecessary interventions when you pass cars in other lanes. Most of them don’t act on a car coming from the side until it’s completely in front of you, and it looks like you were already on the brakes.
