For all those flying to Mark Dodge and driving home with 2022 orders

Are they planning to trailer the truck to NO, or drive it?

I plan to do this as well. My ship date is 12/8 so I figure I'll be picking up early January. Plan to take the 10 all the way back. I've taken 40 a few too many times, and I don't want to get stuck in a random snow storm in Arizona/New Mexico.
They will drive it to you upto 250 miles for free. They can meet you at either a hotel, airport, or even a mile marker from what I was told by sandi. The only down side is they drive it to you. They only way for it to be trailered is to pay to have it transported. If it was any other dealership I wouldn't even consider this, but the customerservice has been amazing so far.

I was told they will drive it to either NO or Houston for delivery at the airport. No option for trailered delivery in that scenario.
I've thought about this option as it cuts off a few hours from the trip. But I kind of want to be the one putting the first real miles on it. Additionally, the plane tickets are significantly cheaper for me to fly directly to Lake Charles than to go to NO.
Interesting that your flights are cheaper to Lake Charles. It was the opposite for me. Saved me a layover, and a few hundred in airfare

I am planing on flying down in a few weeks to pick up my new truck. For those of you who have already made the trip, are there any places to checkout or avoid (i.e hotels, restaurants, sights)? I am planing on flying in to New Orleans and driving back to NC from there so if any of you have any insight on anything in between (or in general) that would be great. Thanks to another member in the build thread who mentioned they were having the dealer meet them somewhere other than lake Charles to save some time. I was able to save a few hours doing this and its no additional cost from the dealer since its within their 250 mile range for fee delivery. I know we are all kind of scattered, but figured this would be a good place for us to all talk in general not just for those headed back to NC like my self.
Linked4door,

Good morning. I am making that drive (Lake Charles LA to Chesapeake Va on 9-10 Dec) using Rt 10 staying north of New Orleans (Rt 12) back on Rt 10 and up Rt 85 to Rt 58 east. I have a stop planned about 11 hours into the drive in Anderson SC. If that is a similar route to you, I will post what I find along the way.

Be safe,
Randy

Much appreciated man. I had planned on flying down the same day, but sadly my truck still hadnt been unloaded yet.

Thanks for starting this thread and thanks to all who have and will contribute. I will be watching as we're also zooming south and would entertain ideas on where to stay, great places to eat and other "can't miss" stops.

Oh, I'm interested in this info too.... Great idea!
My roadtrip will be back to eastern PA. I'm thinking I'll make it a 4 -5 day roadtrip and take my time. Maybe avoid some highways and try to see some out of the way places.
I did the same thing this past June. Flew into Houston, picked up the truck at Mark Dodge, and drove to Slidell, LA and had dinner at Middendorfs (original thin fried catfish). Drove the entire next day and spent the 3rd day doing some scenic Smokey Mountain driving tours on the way to Pigeon Forge. Took my Dad (Retired PA Trooper and Rodeo Team) to Dolly Parton’s Stampede as a late Father’s Day gift. The show was great, highly recommend it. Spent the 4th day driving home to the Reading, PA area. I put 1600 miles on the truck in 4 days. If I remember correctly it was around $1400 (hotels, food, and fuel) for the entire trip. I wouldn’t do it any other way!!

I paid 1600 to have truck shipped to Sacramento. I would have liked to fly down and drive it back, but crossing Texas from east to west was just too much for me.

I didn’t buy from Mark Dodge I bought from Kernersville Dodge Ram in 2020. They flew me from Sacramento CA to Charlotte NC, picked me up at the airport in a nice minivan and drove me to the dealership in Kernersville which is about a 90 minute drive. I picked up the truck and drove back to Commie-fornia. I couldn’t ask for better service.

They also ship free up to 300 miles. Their prices used to be among the best in the country but I’m not sure if they’re still competitive.

Can confirm. I bought my 2019 limited from them, and they have amazing customer service. I just wish they could have matched mark dodge prices, since they are about 800miles closer to me then mark dodge.

They won’t negotiate price unfortunately. It’s take it or leave it with them.

Anyone who has done it recently, what is the documentation process to get it registered? Does Mark Dodge handle most of it? Is a weight certificate needed?

I'm in NH, and we register vehicles at the local town hall. Mark Dodge sent all the paperwork to them, along with the payment to register it. I just had to show up once they called me and told me it arrived to pick it up. I assume it would be a similar experience elsewhere.

did the trip yesterday and back today. Steamboat Bills was a good seafood spot. I just stayed at a Holiday Inn. Nothing special or spectacular but it was a place to stay the night. I65 from Mobile to Montgomery sucks for traffic. I12 is pretty rough unloaded. I let some air out of the tires (85 PSI) at my first fuel stop.

I’m planning to make the 1,600+ mile trip to Cali where I will be installing paint protection film. Did any of y’all tape up the front and rockers so avoid rock chips on the long drive back? I’m contemplating it myself ….

CI6,

If you referring to getting the vehicle registered in another state through Mark Dodge, they are doing my Virginia registration for me. All I did was ask. Title, license, and notary were $190.00 total. No weight cert was mentioned/asked for. I plan on getting her weighed at a local scale when I get back to Va.

be safe,
Randy

yes asking specifically about California, it seems that I need to get a weight certificate and have Mark Dodge mail paperwork directly to a local DMV office. Concerned the local DMV office will not get the mail, lose it or not notify me about it.
