Looking for anyone who has done just what the title says. Last three trucks have been F350 Platinum crew cab short beds. About ready to pull the trigger on a 2021 Ram 2500 Megacab. Pros vs Cons. Not looking to start a brand war or fight ✌️✌️✌️

Payload will be half what your F350 had. 2500 Megacab payload will be around 1700-1800 lbs unless you're getting the Hemi then it will be about 2500-3600lbs. The megacab sheds about 450lbs off payload over simiarly equipped crew cab. What trim level Ram are you looking at? Coming from Platinums I would imagine you'd go with Limited to get similar leather seats. Other than seat leather and some trim, the interiors are basically the same in the Laramie and you can get nearly same options in both. Good luck finding a 2021.

I looked at the F350 pretty closely for 2020 model year. Interior fit-and-finish is pretty comparable but RAM has the edge here while uconnect vs sync seems to be a draw. I really like the extra room behind the seat in the megacab but the Ford crew cab is very spacious. The lay flat seats in the megacab are really nice but the fold up seats in the ford crew cab are also appealing. The Ford telescoping mirrors win hands down. The I6 Cummins factored big in my decision, less stuff in the engine bay while not giving up any performance. If I was more educated on the CP4 situation I might have chosen differently. Ford has better colors. The Ford steering wheel tilts and telescope, the RAM just tilts and the pedals can move forward or aft, which I have never found to be limiting. I would love to have an 8’ bed option on the megacab. The RAM body styling just looks better then the Super Duty, especially the DRW model but this is a personal preference. I’m not sure how I feel about the Ford aluminum bed. The ride quality was about equal but I do think the Ford was a little less harsh on the rough stuff.

For 2020 both Ford and Ram had CP4s…. And Ford still runs a CP4 despite the class action suits
True, and until GM ships trucks with an interior worthy of the 21st century I wouldn’t seriously consider one. I’m not overly concerned about it (CP4 failure) but when it is the middle of the night on a lonely stretch of road somewhere between California and Florida, I do think about it.

I have no worries about CP4 failures (i have had my share of Vp44 trucks and no failures there either) my Rams have always got me home… personally id be more concerned about the new ford and gm 10 speeds and the failure rate they have

personally i find the Gm trucks interiors nicer than the Fords but nowhere near the Rams but cant get over the god awful exterior looks of both the Ford and the Gm/Chevys….

I looked seriously at ordering a 2022 F250 Lariat in Atlas blue with Baja interior, but ultimately the Cummins/Megacab combo was just too hard to give up. The storage behind and under the rear seat is just too useful for my situation. Sucks that my payload sticker will be about 350-400lbs less with a 16 year newer truck than my current 06 megacab.

Granted, I will be adding 4wd vs 2wd I have now but the GVWR of the new 2500s simply needs to be higher LIKE the Fords.

Also, getting 11% off sticker vs only 8-9% on the Ford also helps.

I've had a 2017 F-250 & 2019 F-350; both 6.7's. My 17 was a F-250 Platinum and had horrible body gaps including a door that was denting the inside bottom below the interior trim and that was probably due to being the first year of the new aluminum body style. My 19' was a Lariat F-350 which had no problems at all, great truck. Both of these were used at works trucks, my main day to day complaint was the overall height and loading/unloading. The Ford's look great and have a ton of power but still look like the skipped leg day.

Payload does need to be increased in the Ram 2500 IMO. This will make my 4th Cummins since 2017 and maybe this will sway your decision but my last Cummins (2018) caught on fire in my driveway with only 7,000 miles. I swore I would never buy another Ram however IMO Ford has too many irons in the fire between bringing more types of vehicles to the market, quality control and reducing costs. I don't think a customer should have to spend $125 for a garage door opener on a truck that has a MSRP of over $65,000. Ford no longer paints under the hood, inside the top of the fenders or firewall to "save money." I also dislike the fact that you must order a Lariat trim to have black interior; I would rather have cloth. Ram has considerably upgraded interiors and again this is in my opinion based on my friend's TRX that the fit, finish and quality of the leather seats with equal to those in a Porsche.

My 2021 F-250 7.3 Tremor had two cracked tail lights at 430 miles, had to fight Ford to warranty them at $730 a light without the electronics that had to be swapped these were LED and sensor type lights; but the dealer ended up taking care of it. At 6,600 miles the ECM went out. I wasn't going to wait on a replacement so I bought an 2020 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost off the lot (no problems in 11,000 miles and 3 months of ownership. Swapped to a 2021 F-150 5.0 and I get random alerts like "Reverse Brake Assist Not Available, See Manual" the new shifter occasionally acts up since it puts the truck into park automatically if a door gets opened and you have it in drive or reverse. The new single leaf rear suspension is the worst I've ever experienced and bounces like no other. I bought my wife a 2020 Explorer ST and with 23,XXX miles its had over 8 TSB's/Recalls; leather in the seats come untucked from the bottom, trim panels chaffing, now it sounds like what Ford calls Cam Phasers are having issues and cold starts are....interesting. It will be gone soon too.

If you want more power & acceleration go for Ford, If you want overall reliability then I would go with the Ram. The 10 speed transmissions will have problems after 50k + miles if used for towing. I've also had a 2020 Chevy Duramax 3500....just nope to that to throw that in there.

Just one more thing to add. The new Ford 12" Sync 4 is leaps and bounds above the Sync 3, however as an avid ForScan user I've noticed that some changes are erased when an OTA update occurs. On previous powerstrokes, I would add DEF %, Temps above gauges so I dont know if that would also be erased. Not really a big deal but I like my music and prefer to modify my EQ settings due to audio upgrades. B&O sounds like a bag of mashed up *******s in a ziploc bag smacked against a wall and you have to purchase a $550 Zen module to upgrade correctly.

Thanks to everyone. Payload for me is not a big concern, I'm a big guy that likes to be comfortable, and be able to safely tow 10,000 lbs.
I have actually found a truck on a dealer lot. It is a Laramie, so the leather seat quality is a concern.

May or may not be relevant to the 21 model year, however I had a '14 Laramie. The leather was not "real" in many places. The center console top/arm rest felt more rubbery, and was definitely NOT leather.
My '21 Limited is much nicer.

BUT.... My '14, after ~ 7 years and 100k miles had no issues at all. I have 2 dogs, 1 small and one mid-sized who occupied the cab regularly.
Seats looked great, and wouldn't be concerned with a Laramie interior. Yes... Longhorn/Limited are nicer leather, real wood, etc.

Just my $.02 (non-refundable)

Best of luck!

I just switched back to Ram, 3 weeks from trading a 2020 F250 7.3/3.55 to a 2021 2500 6.4/3.73.20210415_143021.jpg

@ fourbybud what made you switch back to Ram ? Your Ford was new
I haven't yet. Current truck is black and I decided that color is just not for me. Started looking around, checked out the RamHD's, since I hade one before. They have really changed. In a good way. Can't go wrong with Ford or Ram.
The ride quality being the primary reason.

I have always been a Dodge/Ram truck guy, owned 4. I needed to upgrade from my 2019 1500 to something bigger with the potential to pull a 5er. Ford had just come out with the 7.3/10speed and the SD CC is larger and offers a safe front bench seat. I didn't want to go back to a diesel bc I just didn't want to change fuel filters, def, fuel additives, heat in the winter, no need to plug up and most importantly the emissions equipment. The 6.7 CTD is a great engine as long as the emissions equipment doesn't fail out of warranty. So I took a leap with the SD. The 7.3 is an outstanding engine w 80% of its max torque available at 1600rpm. No fuss no muss towing. However the transmission programming is a mess. The 8hp75 transmission is far superior to the 10R140.
The CC SD is a larger more capable (talking 7.3 v 6.4) truck than the CC 2500. However the 2500 has better fit and finish, interior/exterior design, uconnect and a world class transmission. I'm holding off any assessments of the 6.4 until it's broken in but right now am getting significantly less mpg empty and towing than with the 7.3. Ram needs a larger displacement V8 to compete with the 7.3 imo.
