Manhattan U.S. Attorney Sues Automobile Device Manufacturer EZ Lynk, Its Owners, And A Related Company For Manufacturing And Selling Emissions Control Defeat Device In Violation Of The Clean Air Act

You can expect they will obtain customer sales records and start coming after truck owners as well after they finish off the big fish. The writing is on the wall folks. Keep your heads down and watch your six.

If you've posted publicly about using any emissions defeat products, you may want to revisit those posts and CYA. Not legal advice, just advice. I do not speak for, nor do my opinions represent those of the site ownership in any manner.

For what its worth they are not likely to go after individuals they just want that fine money like the 850,000$ they got off diesel bros lol

Won't go after customers for sure. But with their cloud database I wouldn't be connecting my EZ Lynk to a cloud any time soon if I owned one. Bet they could easily send a command to reflash all ECUs back to stock once the customers connect to a cloud.

They cant go after customers and ezlink cant be held liable as they are just a platform to use tunes the people making the non emission tunes can be liable thats about it as ezlink does not make any tunes from my understanding....

Brutal, that's not going to happen. Sure, they'd like to get us truck owners but it will never happen.
1. They'll never finish with the big fish. If you read the EPAs docs, they even think changing tire or wheel size is an emissions violation. They can't keep up with tuning violators, how long will it take to get to the tire and wheel big fish.
2. EZ-Lynk has no record that I have a tune. They don't even know I have an EZ-Lynk. If they or the EPA have access to my info on the cloud I'd be surprised. If they do, there would be a ton of legal issues including human rights violations.
3. Look at the tuners already shut down. EPA undoubtedly got the tuners records of customers and the customer's data.
Have you ever heard of any of those tuner's customers even being contacted, let alone cited? Ala GDE for example.

As mentioned above, EZ-Lynk isn't a tune nor do they tune. So what's EPAs angle? Are they now going after the manufacturers of products that allow tuning? If so, is their next target vehicles, FCA, Ford Chevy and all the others allow tuning.

I truly hope you are not right, but with the current trends, it certainly could. Cheers!

IMO, if they could (go after end users) they would. But they don't have the resources (human or dollars). I could see them getting customer lists and sending scary letters that warn of monetary fines and legal jeopardy if you have used your EZ Lynk to tune your truck in a non-compliant fashion. And maybe they make an example of a few egregious violators to scare the rest of us in line. But logistically, they simply don't have the resources to go after all customers, in my opinion.

That said, if you have tuned your truck (hey NSA or whoever from the gov't is listening and watching - I haven't tuned my truck), I completely agree with Brutal that you should scrub your public facing content.

So you can buy a gun or a knife - and that doesn't mean you are going to use it to commit a crime or violate someone's rights. Same with EZ Lynk - so will be interesting to see how the gov't makes their case. The guys who sold tunes on the other hand are absolutely in jeopardy.

Scary (and sad) to think that they are using emoji's as evidence now days. Guess I'm screwed that I put a "thumbs up" emoji on a Hilary for prison post a couple years ago....... No going back now though, once it's on the net it's captured forever so no sense in deleting anything at this point.

I never, ever thought I'd live to see the day that we lose the freedom to worship, act and speak freely. Here we are worrying about what we say or have said - a sad day for sure.

It looks like Ez Lynk is in the Cayman Islands...does the EPA have jurisdiction there? I guess they can ban the importing of the product?

These quotes form the linked article made me laugh....

"EZ LYNK also knows and has reason to know that the principal effect and use of this product is to defeat emission controls. Among other things, EZ LYNK maintains an online “EZ Lynk Forum” on social media to encourage and assist drivers looking to disable their vehicle emissions controls using the EZ Lynk System. Hundreds of drivers have visited the EZ Lynk Forum to post their experiences “deleting” emissions controls using the EZ Lynk System. EZ LYNK representatives have explicitly approved many of the posts, and in some instances have offered technical support to drivers disabling emissions controls. For example:

  • A driver posted, in part, “Finally made the jump and deleted my 14 Ram 2500: Holy hell [] this thing is awesome! The EZ lynk worked flawlessly, albeit I was a nervous wreck during the tune flash,” adding that “the guys at EZ lynk are doing great work!” The driver tagged an EZ Lynk representative, who later “loved” the post.
  • Another driver posted to the EZ Lynk Forum, “Had a few small issues with my ez lynk install. Got in touch with the tech support. All issues resolved. Couldn’t be happier with my ez lynk. Truck has shown huge improvement with the deletes and new tunes.” Again, an EZ Lynk representative “loved” the post.
  • A driver posted to the EZ Lynk Forum, “Installed ez Lynk on my 14 ram 3500 fully deleted the other day [but] as soon as it loaded” experienced a malfunction. The driver asked if anyone else had experienced the same problem. An EZ LYNK representative responded, providing detailed instructions to fix the problem. The driver then wrote “[p]roblems fixed with the help of EZ Lynk’s Technical Support Representative.”

I'll just say this. If you don't think big brother is watching and documenting popular online forums, you're only fooling yourself.
  • Gun forum members espousing breaking unconstitutional laws (magazine restrictions, etc.) CHECK
  • Diesel truck enthusiasts bragging about deletes. CHECK
  • Hollywood and politician pedophiles. Well, maybe not so much checked, probably only on the dark web.
