Makes sense. The lens cover probably isn't needed; the ram factory camera is well sealed.

I finally finished installing mine (holiday's, weather). It looks great, and I can't wait to use it while towing! Happy to print more if people want, but I won't be selling them painted (to cold here to paint outside and no indoor paint booth).

I'm getting an RSI SmartCap installed this week and would like to get my digital mirror back. I do have the tow camera package, but I don't think the look of that big camera it comes with would be great.

I don,t know about you guys to each his own but you might want to seal that camera , theres alot of dirt and water that swirls around that edge of a canopy. even when its the cargo cam and the digital rear view cam on the cab, dealer is replacing mine $300 CDN for the part because its fogging over , just a heads up cheers

I have a 24’ loaded Laramie 3500 With ARE cap. Id like to gain the digi rear cam back. I was initially thinking id want to just steal the wired tow mode cam cable from under the bumper BUT im thinking I need to use that for an actual trailer cam.

So that being said. I need to get an adapter , steal the connection from the factory 3rd brake light camera and run it back so I can pop up out of the ARE 3rd. Brake light and into the 3d printed cam.

I tried following all of the links but it’s been all over the place. Anyone kind enough to set me up with some links lol?

Not sure how they are doing this on the 3500's. What you describe is basically correct. I used a 30 ft Fakra Z male to Fakra Z female to run from my backseat, under the truck, back to the 3rd brake light on my LEER topper. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133219449105?var=432560679082

This could have been a 25 foot cable, maybe even less on my RAM 1500 Limited Crew Cab w/ 6' 4" bed. I'm pretty sure I used a 10 ft Fakra Z male to Fakra Z male to connect the camera in my 3D printed housing to the long cable. I'm not sure what the interior setup on the 3500's is like, but I had some additional 10' RG58 Fakra Z extension cables in my cab; one that goes from the factory cable to the backseat, and another that goes from the factory 3rd brakelight camera to the backseat, so I can re-connect the camera here.

In general its been working well, but shorter cable runs reduce interference issues.

I would imagine it’s the same as far as the wires go. It’s basically the same truck. Footprint wise. I did find out when messing with it I can use a split screen view of the side mirrors shooting backwards that shows up on the rear view mirror. It’s almost identical to the actual rear view cam oddly enough. I still want to mount an actual 3d printed one though.

Update on my build -- I used a 10 ft Fakra Z cable to connect my factory-ordered trailer camera to the factory-optioned location on the bumper. I tried to use a Y cable to keep the factory location, but the two cables I tried wouldn't send a clean signal. I then routed it out the back of my RSI topper. Initially, I was going to go higher, but I like this location as it is better protected.

It's a clear view out of the mirror now, and I enjoy how the camera display tilts in reverse. I wasn't expecting that.
After another week of use, I will post a video of the details. I want to make sure it's all good before I suggest doing what I did.



It fits well with the cap -- Secured with a few button-head M6 bolts.



Before, I put a bit of RTV into the grommet, But you can see it's well protected, and I can now use my factory cable to connect here. If I need to.


I unplugged the back of this and used it to plug into the cable that runs into the topper.


Now, onto the next project

I did the same set as you to a camper but when i tried to go another 28ft from the bumper to the back of my cargo , no image , to far I guess. on a side note the mirror cam is 275 Cdn and is a different part from the cargo cam

Any idea on where to get the 3d printed camera setup? If I was going to do it I like the sleek design of some of the ones posted in here.
Unfortunately I decided to not rob the connection from the trailer port on the bumper because im going to use that on multiple trailer cams.

Did you purchase a camera to mount in housing? Looking through multiple threads, it’s confusing to me what camera is available and will work for the ‘24s.

Since you need more than the 20’ length available, you would finish off with a length that is male to female. Running it should be straight forward- mirror to driver side A-pillar, out the firewall, along the chassis to the back, and up the camper shell to some type of custom fabbed enclosure.

Just wanted to sign up so I could thank you guys for the research and posts on this, used a lot if it to get my digital rearview on my '21 operational again. I bought the factory CHMSL with rearview camera only (P68465996AA) from a salvage yard and integrated that into the back of my topper. Had to trim the assembly down and router out the fiberglass to get the angle correct. I really am glad to have the digital rearview camera back and look forward to using my switch with the other one I put on my 28' cargo trailer. Thank you all.

I took a couple. First I made some modifications to the back of the lamp to give it a shallower depth. Then I made a template of the part that needed recessed and transferred it to tape on the topper, there were several test fits. I pulled the rear glass and that let me clamp a couple of 1/2" boards to the proper angle for the router which let the lamp assembly to sit as flat as possible. I did trim down the upper lip of the housing so it wouldn't get caught going through car washes etc. The topper isn't thick enough to get the lamp wouldn't sit all the way down without it being a clean cut all the way through (which I didn't want). Here's the pics I have on my phone, if you need some finished ones I can grab some.
