Digital Rear View Mirror

This is what we need.

Unless I'm confusing them with someone else, I believe they also make the trailer see-through system for GM?

They do. It appears gentex builds the DRVMs for pretty much all car manufacturers that have them.
And yes, it uses the same digital camera that is used for the rear view and tow mode view on the Rams.

No, and it probably won’t ever be possible to use the factory DRVM because the linbus message packets are different between 2019-2020 and 2021-2022. Even though the mirror and camera is it’s own standalone system with power, ground, and video cable, for whatever reason it’s looking for an initial message from linbus at startup to get going.
BUT…Gentex makes the factory digital mirror, and this one is the exact same as far as the mirror itself (actually, the factory DRVM is quite limited as far as what the mirror is fully capable of):

The problem is, you really don’t need the digital camera that comes with it because you already need to buy the CHMSL, which is only sold with the camera installed. I suppose you can use it somehow as a secondary camera.

Also, looks like gentex has a version of that mirror that has several camera modes, Picture in Picture, pinch zoom screen, dvr, etc:
Thanks Jimmy I appreciate your insight and your efforts on getting the OE DRVM to work on the 2020. I guess I'll have to spring for Gentex OE version and get the OE CHMSL. I get shop pricing on Ram parts, it would of been nice to get both pieces at shop pricing. At this point all I want is the single digital rear view mirror display, so this plan should work out perfect for me. Next project is the Titan 52 gallon fuel tank then I'll tackle the DRVM upgrade. I'll report back.

I picked up a regular non-digital auto dimming smart beam mirror off ebay reasonably cheap. It showed up making a distinct rattling sound like broken glass inside so I decided to go ahead and open it up and take a look. The ribbon cable from the smart beam sensor plugs into the back of the mirror circuit board. The white connector retained in the back housing goes to the plug on the mirror arm and plugs into the harness in the headliner.

Here's a good option for those that don't have the factory Cargo cam.

Their prices sure seem a little rapey to me.

I don't disagree, but it is a viable option that will allow for OEM-like usability along with an OEM camera/3rd brake light.

Do a search for the brake light/camera itself... its over $600.

You can occasionally find them on the ebay. Mine was 55 bucks shipped, correct part number and everything. I would have to do the wiring though for the cameras. I also think I just saw one here on the buy/sell section for $300.

Compared to what?

Compared to my perception of what the CHMSL costs. $277

But the $800 dollar one has the camera for the digital rear view mirror... although not active at this time they seems to be planning to incorporate that later.

Mopar’s pricing structure on the CHMSL’s with cameras are probably the strangest of all parts.
You also have to be careful which CHMSL you choose because there are 2 different cargo cameras- one that works with surround view, and one for trucks not equipped with surround view.
So, there are actually 5 different CHMSL’s with cameras to choose from:
1) 68523966AA ($660)- this one contains only the analog cargo view camera, and is the one that you would add to a truck that didn’t come with one, or is equipped on trucks that have cargo camera without surround view.

2) 68465999AA ($375)- this one contains the analog cargo view camera AND digital rear view mirror camera, and is used on trucks equipped with digital rear view mirror and cargo camera, but not surround view. This is the one that infotainment offers in their kit, and based on the price, you can see why they use it instead of option 1 above, even though it has the extra camera that won’t be used.

3) 68465998AA ($278)- this is the one @Brutal_HO posted above. It contains the digital rear view mirror camera and the digital cargo camera ONLY TO BE USED in conjunction with the surround view system. This CHMSL can not be used for someone that is looking to add a cargo camera to a truck that wasn’t equipped with one (unless going through with the full surround view install)

4) 68465996AA ($195)- this one contains only the camera for the digital rear view mirror. No cargo camera.

5) 68523968AA ($560)- this one contains only the digital cargo camera to be used in conjunction with surround view. Same as above, this one can’t be used when adding just the cargo camera.

I didn't know there were 5, but I originally thought that 68523966AA was the "correct" option for guys that have trucks NOT originally equipped with the cargo camera.

Makes the $799 I linked above seem not too bad after all I suppose. Still pricey though!

I wonder if one could buy the $375 CHMSL and source the harness and parts separately from Infotainment.

I wish that the mirror wasn't $900. I really want to do this so I can have visibility with my cap and 37" spare that is vertically bed mounted.

Would this be the one to get if you didn't need a cargo cam and wanted to instead remove that extra cam from the chmsl and place it on the back of a topper or even the rear of a trailer?

?

19-20 BCM can't run the DRVM.
I kinda figured that it's only a matter of time before someone makes a harness/bypass/BCM swap option. At this point though, I'm ready to just buy an aftermarket kit I can wrap over the rear view and call it a day.
