I hear that the ram trucks with diesels have a extra cab heater, electric maybe? Has anyone used it? Have any info? Cab warm up super quick?

Me and my ole man have 2 brand new 3500 diesel long bed trucks and this is the first I've heard about the extra cab heater.

They have an electric heater than heats the truck while the engine warms up. I think it’s quoted to start heating in 2-3 min of start up.

The heater is located in the heater box downstream of the heater core. It consists of three 400W resistors, which translates to 100 amps at 12 volts.

Operation is automatic, based upon the following conditions being met:
-Engine must be running at 700RPM or greater
-Outside temp is below 68F
-Coolant temp is below 158F
-Battery voltage must not fall below 12.6

This supplemental heater can be had on vehicles with automatic or manual climate controls. However, the workshop manual lists it as an option rather than standard equipment. Check your fuses / relays under the hood. The manual calls it a "Positive Temperature Coefficient" heater, or PTC.

Add: if your have the heater, you'll also have an aux PDC under the hood located just below the driver side cowl. It will be populated with three relays and three fuses.

Before I ordered my truck I saw this listed somewhere but thought it was standard on certain models. My dealer couldn't find this on the order and was not familiar with it nor did I see it on the Ram Build and Price site. However on the Ford Build and Price site it is listed as an option.

When mine comes in I will have to check under the hood for the PDC relays and fuses .

I also found this on another forum: https://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/2019-general-discussion/2516277-duct-electric-heater.html

Thanks for the info.

I retrieved my Build Sheet HERE and found out it is indeed on my 2020. This is a good place to start you search to see if you might have it.

The following image is a brief section of my build sheet showing the Supplemental Heater listed as being on my vehicle. This way you will know what to look for.

I checked mine too. It is listed on the "Options" section. So not being standard, my guess it is the trim level that determine if you have it of not.

Yep, it shows up in the Equipment Listing (no sales code) but is AWOL on the window sticker. And it's no where to be found when doing build and price on the Ram sites. Somebody with access to Starparts could likely dig up a sales code.

Can't for certain with RAM, but for GM and VW (both, aux heaters are just a standard part of the diesel build because a diesel takes soo much longer to heat up.

Likely standard with the diesel motors, but in the options section because the diesel motors are also options. Standard equipment would the be 6.4 HEMI.

Makes sense.
